The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits.

Who You Are

The HR Recruiter for Mikisew Awasis Kisiwatsowin Society will play a key role in attracting, sourcing, and hiring top-tier candidates for positions within the agency. The recruiter will be responsible for the full recruitment cycle, from job posting to interview coordination and candidate placement. This role requires an understanding of the unique needs of child and family services, as well as a commitment to providing high-quality support to vulnerable populations.

This position is based in Fort McMurray, AB

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Source, screen, and recruit candidates for various roles with Awasis Kisiwatsowin (social workers, case managers, therapists, and administrative staff).
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to understand the specific needs of each role.
  • Post job openings on various platforms, including job boards, social media, and community organizations.
  • Use a variety of sourcing methods to identify and attract top talent, including online databases, networking, and career fairs.
  • Review resumes and applications to assess candidates qualifications.
  • Conduct initial phone screenings and coordinate in-person or virtual interviews.
  • Provide candidates with detailed information about job requirements, responsibilities, and the organizational culture
  • Oversee the onboarding process for new hires, including background checks, credentialing, and new employee orientation.
  • Ensure all documentation, including employment contracts and compliance forms, are completed.
  • Maintain accurate records of recruitment activities and candidate information
  • Assist in building strong working relationships with community organizations, educational institutions, and local employment agencies to enhance recruitment efforts.
  • Promote inclusive hiring practices and ensure that recruitment efforts attract a diverse pool of candidates.
  • Attend career fairs, conduct presentations at local colleges and attend other networking opportunities in the region.
  • All other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Social Work or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in recruitment, preferably within Child and Family Services or related area
  • Knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and recruitment processes
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience using HR software and applicant tracking systems
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Compassionate and empathetic, with a strong understanding of the needs and sensitivities of children and families
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high level of professionalism
  • Ability to speak Cree or Dene is an asset.

  • Must be reliable and be prepared to work irregular hours depending on job demands.
  • Must sign Oath of Confidentiality form.
