Journeyperson Electrician & Apprentices – Solar Installer / PV Operations and Maintenance
Summary:
We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Journeyperson Electricians and/or Apprentices to join our Solar Installation team that has been in operation for 30 years. In this role, you will actively assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of both grid-tie, battery back-up & off grid renewable energy systems consisting of: ground mount, rooftop residential & commercial solar PV systems located throughout the Okanagan & Interior BC ranging from 5 kW to 50 kW in size. IPS is not only an industry leading Solar Installation Company, but also IPS is a leading Solar/Renewable Energies distributor in the area whereas there will be some warehouse management tasks such as shipping & receiving, organizing & relocating materials. As an electrical contractor, IPS maintains a variety of project dependent electrical work such as: repairs & installations of natural gas/propane generators, micro-hydro electric turbines, wind turbines, and EV Chargers, Electrical Service Upgrades and other miscellaneous electrical installations. You will work closely with other licensed electricians, apprentices and other team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation & repair of photovoltaic projects in accordance with codes and standards using drawings, schematics, and instructions including visual inspections, current & voltage measurements, torque checking & system monitoring software.
- Maintenance and replacement of low voltage equipment such as inverter monitoring, irradiance sensors, racking systems, electrical wiring, batteries & battery cabinets, inverter components, solar modules, and various monitoring systems.
- Replacing damaged or installing new electrical components such as, disconnects, splitters, load panels and inverters.
- Requests to do on-call maintenance services on weekends and holidays.
- Report field operation status, and supply constructive feedback to supervisor as requested.
- Communicate effectively with clients, team members, supplier representatives, and office staff.
- Practice safe working practices. The candidate will need to have experience working outdoors in Residential/Commercial/Industrial settings. Knowledge of solar PV systems is a preferred.
Qualifications:
- 5+ Years of Electrical Experience in Canada.
- Preference given to Solar Photovoltaic & Energy Storage Systems experience.
- Able to work in all climates and weather conditions.
- Able to lift 80 lbs.
- Able to regularly lift 40-60 lbs throughout the day while on a roof.
- Comfortable working on a roof.
- Comfortable working at heights.
- Fall-Arrest/Fall Protection Certification with WorkSafeBC
- Knowledge of Section 64 an asset.
- Must be self-motivated.
- Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, BC Hydro & FortisBC Service Interconnection Requirements.
- Troubleshooting abilities an asset.
- Physical ability to: lift and carry items weighing up to 80 pounds; climb ladders, bend, stoop, work in awkward positions for several hours at a time, comfortable working at heights and crawl through small attics that are hot, work in trenches that are muddy, and wet; work during inclement weather.
- Willing to travel across the Interior of BC & Okanagan with possible overnight stays as required.
- Must be mechanically inclined.
- Must have valid Drivers License & maintain a good driving record.
- Fall Arrest, MEWP & Forklift training an asset.
