Job Description

Bantrel is working with K+S Potash (KSPC) as an Integrated Project Management Team (IPMT), to expand the KSPC Bethune Potash Mine in near Moose Jaw Saskatchewan from 2.2 to 3.0M tonnes per annum over the next 5 years. The final production capacity is intended to grow over decades to 4M tonnes per year, doubling the current production output of potash. Key personnel will support the project from Saskatoon and Bethune, with additional support staff supporting from Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto.

The Field Engineering Manager/Project Field Engineer (PFE) reports to the Site Manager and is responsible for establishing and maintaining a field engineering organization. This includes managing discipline field engineers, field document management, reality capture specialist, survey coordinator, ground disturbance permit management, rigging engineering and turnover coordinators.

The PFE provides direction to field engineering personnel to execute constructability analysis, construction engineering, construction quality control, subcontract scope input, progress measurement, reality capture, turnover and permitting, among other tasks to meet requirements set out in the project and construction execution plans.

The PFE is responsible for field document management, including establishing and maintaining an organization to support all project discipline needs. The PFE shall form the link between the Owner, Engineers of Record, and the construction team.

This position is based in Bethune, SK. The shift is Monday to Thursday, 10 hours/day. The successful candidate must be local to the area.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains the field engineering organization.
  • Manages the turnover team and utilization of digital tools, including a reality capture program, to ensure maximum efficiency of the work fronts.
  • Establishes a Design/Field Engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Resident Engineer, including agreement on engineering deliverables.
  • Responsible for verification of field installed quantities, quality control/assurance, progress reporting, and forecasting.
  • Coordinates and monitors the interface between the construction automation plan and the project controls program at the job site.
  • Develops and ensures the implementation of the project construction procedures from the Construction Operating Procedures (COPs). Coordinates any deviations from COPs.
  • Coordinates with the superintendents and subcontractors to plan construction schedules and subcontract activities to ensure materials, equipment, and quality comply with design plans and specifications.
  • Reviews and recommends procedures to be implemented by superintendents to ensure construction operations are within engineering design requirements and specifications.
  • Directs construction quality activities on the project, communicating with resident engineers, procurement, construction, administrative services, testing, operations, commissioning, and other project personnel to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Initiates and/or coordinates stop-work action when warranted.
  • Manages the process, tools and resources to achieve timely processing and closure of the following - Technical Queries (TQs), Field Change Notices (FCNs), Field Change Reports (FCRs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
  • Ensures that subordinate personnel receive progressive training. Assesses needs and develops Field Engineering Training Plan for the project.
  • Implements a performance management plan for the field engineering organization.
  • Reviews and provides input to the project staffing plan for field engineers, field document management, and associated or specialist supporting personnel.
  • Additional duties as required.
Qualifications
  • A recognized degree in Engineering or Construction Management plus 10 years of relevant experience or 14 years of equivalent industry experience in-lieu of a degree.
  • PEng registration, in good standing within Saskatchewan (APEGS) is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of quality management processes and systems, ISO standards, and auditing processes related to major project delivery or program management.
  • Prior experience developing scopes of work, supervising and administering subcontractors.
  • Knowledge of industry-leading functional standards and engineering management practices in a multi-discipline engineering environment, including 3D data-centric platforms.
  • Working knowledge of engineering, contracts & procurement, construction, commissioning, project controls, health & safety, environment & community, risk management, multi-discipline workflows and interactions for large capital projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders at all levels.
  • High attention to detail, motivation, and ability to deliver quality outcomes under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and comprehend new concepts and technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and problem-solving, including root cause analysis training.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive and collaborative team environment while serving as an ambassador and coach for Bantrel Mission and Values and Owner core values.
