LEGAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT – Health Law and Insurance Law LAA

We are currently seeking a Legal Administrative Assistant to support two lawyers who work in our Insurance, Health, Workplace, and Commercial Litigation practice groups. The position provides an opportunity to work with a vibrant and team-oriented group of people. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years' experience working in a Canadian law firm, be energetic, flexible, highly motivated and driven to succeed.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Liaise with other legal assistants, paralegals, lawyers and clients regarding file progress

  • Draft and transcribe legal documents, basic pleadings and correspondence

  • Manage and maintain bring forward system for tasks and appointments

  • Organize meetings and schedule discoveries, trials, and other court dates

  • Prepare application records

  • Field client inquiries

  • Keep paper and electronic files up to date, including creating binders, labels and CMPA files

  • Process all outgoing correspondence and sort incoming mail

  • Prepare expense reports

  • Prepare monthly accounts

  • Other general administrative duties as required

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Completion of an accredited Legal Administrative Assistant program

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Legal Administrative Assistant

  • Advanced computer skills with Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Keyboarding at a minimum or 60wpm

  • Excellent spelling, grammar and proofreading skills

  • A thorough understanding of civil litigation rules and procedures

  • Ability work calmly under pressure and manage high volume of work and multiple lawyers in a fast paced

    environment

  • Exposure to or experience with CMPA (Canadian Medical Protective Association) considered an

    asset

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Excellent written (grammar, spelling, proofreading) and verbal communication skills

  • High level organizational skills with a strong attention to detail to produce quality and accurate work

  • Ability to prioritize tasks by deadline, work calmly under pressure and manage high volume of work

    in a fast paced environment

  • Proven ability to take initiative and be proactive, as well as follow instructions and adhere to strict

    deadlines

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with lawyers, paralegals and legal

    assistants

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a contributing member in a team environment

  • Positive, professional, can-do attitude

The salary range for this role is $65,000 - $75,000 annually.

Actual compensation will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the candidate's relevant education, experience and qualifications.
