DescriptionHi there, we're Article. Since 2013, we have been redefining the furniture industry one sofa at a time, it's not easy — it requires solving challenging, meaningful problems. This is where you come in, as a Senior Accountant, you'll be preparing journal entries and reconciliations in the full-cycle accounting close process while ensuring compliance with US GAAP.
This role involves analyzing financial information, summarizing key insights for senior leadership, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support business objectives.
The Senior Accountant also provides technical accounting expertise, assists with complex transactions, and serves as a key liaison between finance and other departments. Additionally, they play a critical role in mentoring and coaching junior team members, fostering their professional growth and strengthening the overall accounting team.
When starting in this role, you will focus on learning all of our current systems and then by your second month you will be able to work autonomously. The team deals with a high volume of transactions; this is one of the bigger challenges in this role. You'll need to make sense of thousands of lines of transactions/data on a monthly basis.
*Please note this role requires coming into our Vancouver HQ 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).

What You'll Do:
- Contribute to the completion of accurate and timely monthly comparative financial statements with the departmental breakdown
- Assist the Assistant Controller with reviewing working papers, and approving journal entries of junior team members
- Complete working papers and ad hoc analyses, including posting journal entries to ensure the accuracy of the financial statements
- Become the subject matter expert for logistics and lease accounting including preparing calculations, journal entries, maintaining the lease accounting software and monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Design and document month-end processes and reconciliations
- Contribute to the preparation of monthly reporting packages for presentation to the senior leadership team
- Liaise with FP&A on forecast variances and perform variance analysis as required
- Lead budget to actual review meetings with department heads if required
- Assist in building out internal control processes including documentation, providing guidance/discussion with other departments, and liaising with external consultants as required
- Ensure accounting policies and procedures adhere to US GAAP
- Prepare working papers for audits, liaising with external auditors
- Spearhead automation projects and identify opportunities for process improvements
- Participate in implementation discussions, scenario planning, and UAT as required
- Involvement in special projects/analyses which require extensive use of Excel and the handling of large amounts of data manipulation
- Provide mentorship and coaching to junior staff
Who You Are:
- CPA designation or passed CFE and awaiting final approval of experience verification
- 3+ years experience in progressive accounting roles
- Proficient with Excel Spreadsheets and dealing with large data sets
- Previous experience working for a medium to large size company with exposure to large volumes of transactions
- Previous experience in an eCommerce environment is nice to have
- Previous experience with Netsuite or similar ERP systems is nice to have
- Previous experience with lease accounting
- We use G-Suite (Gmail, Sheets, Google Docs, Meet, etc) to work and Slack to collaborate and communicate, with your choice of Mac or PC device
- Legally able to work in Canada
- Completion of criminal background check

- The salary range is $80,000 to $100,000. The starting salary will be determined by your transferable skills, knowledge, work experience, and the hiring team's budget, which is based on business needs, market compensation data, and internal equity
