Responsibilities:
- Lead, train, and provide guidance to the accounting department, including overseeing AP/AR, payroll, and bookkeeping tasks.
- Manage in-house payroll and handle full-cycle accounting on a daily basis.
- Ensure accurate remittance for payroll, and other applicable taxes when required.
- Oversee the management of working capital and cash flow, adjusting for dynamic changes in the business.
- Prepare, review, and approve GST returns and other necessary remittances.
- Administer employee benefit plans
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial reports, including cash flow, balance sheets, income statements, and comparative analyses.
- Prepare year-end working papers and work closely with external accountants to assist with audits.
- Design and implement internal controls, systems, and procedures to maintain operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with management to address accounting and administrative issues, ensuring their needs are met.
- Maintain existing relationships with external financial institutions and banking partners.
- Handle administrative duties, such as assisting with customer payments, answering phone inquiries, and resolving AP/AR issues.
Requirements:
- CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA program, with 4-6 years of experience in an SME environment in Canada.
- Proficient in accounting software, with preference for SAGE 300 ERP or Sage ACCPAC.
- Experience dealing with the CRA and other related authorities.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365, particularly Excel and Word.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and utilize resources efficiently.
- Intermediate knowledge of payroll functions.
- Proven leadership capabilities, with strong problem-solving skills.
- Quick to adapt to new ERP systems (experience with Acumatica is a plus)
- Experience in budgeting and forecasting.
- In-depth understanding of the Canadian taxation system.
