Position Summary – Lead Hand
The Lead Hand is a working production leader who spends the majority of their time performing hands-on production duties while providing day-to-day support to production employees. This role helps ensure products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and according to quality standards while supporting workflow coordination, training, and communication with Supervisors.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on production activities including operating machinery, tying and forming products, assembling/disassembling equipment, weighing products, adding ingredients, hanging products for cooking, moving raw materials, and supporting all aspects of daily production operations.
- Monitor food safety and product quality through product inspections, pre-operational inspections, metal detector verification, temperature monitoring, and completion of HACCP, GMP, and production records.
- Support production flow and efficiency by ensuring the availability of raw materials, supplies, equipment, PPE, and work orders, while addressing operational issues and minimizing downtime.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and training by offering guidance to team members, coordinating workflow and break schedules, supporting onboarding activities, and assisting the Supervisor in achieving production targets.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workplace by following all food safety, quality, health and safety, and company policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a food manufacturing, meat processing, or production environment.
- Previous Lead Hand, Team Lead, or supervisory experience is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP, and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) requirements.
- Experience operating production machinery and equipment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Forklift and Powered Industrial Equipment certification and/or experience is considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately complete production documentation.
Working Conditions
- Majority of the shift involves hands-on production work.
- Cold food manufacturing environment.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling of up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and repetitive movements.
- Use of production equipment, machinery, and manual handling tools.
- Basic math skills required for weighing, measuring, and recording production information.
- Fast-paced, production-driven environment with daily targets and deadlines.
