Overview of Role

The Specialist, Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) is a focused technical role responsible for delivering guidance and hands-on expertise across customer identity platforms, authentication services, and access management technologies. This role places customer identity at the center of a secure digital experience strategy, with expertise in customer creation, authentication, authorization, identity management, privacy, operations, and governance.

The Specialist provides technical expertise for CIAM platforms and solutions, helping ensure secure, scalable, and seamless customer access experiences while aligning with organizational security, privacy, and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as a subject matter expert for Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM), maintaining advanced knowledge of customer identity platforms, authentication protocols, customer registration and profile management, identity federation, and access management technologies.

Design, implement, and support customer identity solutions including OAuth2, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), OpenID Connect (OIDC), passwordless authentication, delegated authorization, and customer identity management.

Develop and maintain CIAM standards, security controls, and best practices that support guests experiences while protecting organizational assets and customer data.

Consolidate expertise from multiple internal and external sources, including vendors, consultants, security specialists, and business stakeholders, to provide recommendations that support organizational objectives.

Provide technical advice to stakeholders and effectively translate complex identity, security, privacy, and customer experience concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Take ownership of complex customer identity challenges and proactively resolve technical issues while ensuring solutions continue to meet business, security, regulatory, and customer experience requirements.

Participate in the evaluation, selection, implementation, and optimization of CIAM technologies and services, determining when solutions should be built, enhanced, integrated, or procured.

Support customer identity modernization initiatives, including migration of on-premises identity capabilities and legacy customer authentication platforms to cloud-based CIAM solutions.

Design and support integrations between CIAM platforms and customer-facing applications, APIs, loyalty programs, digital services, and third-party identity providers.

Produce detailed technical designs and documentation using established standards, methods, and tools.

Support knowledge sharing, mentoring, workshops, presentations, and training activities that enhance identity and access management capabilities across teams.

Qualifications

Experience working with and supporting cloud-based identity platforms, including contributing to identity modernization initiatives.

Experience implementing and supporting cloud identity platforms such as Microsoft Entra External ID, Okta Customer Identity, Auth0, Ping Identity, ForgeRock, or similar technologies.

Experience designing secure customer identity integrations for cloud-native applications, SaaS platforms, APIs, and hybrid environments.

8+ years of IT experience, including 7+ years in Identity and Access Management (IAM)

7+ years leading IAM teams, services, or enterprise access management programs

Proven experience delivering IAM initiatives from implementation through operational support and continuous improvement

Skilled in facilitating stakeholder workshops, gathering requirements, and designing IAM business processes

Experienced in leading, mentoring, and prioritizing work for IAM teams to achieve service and project objectives

Excellent leadership, communication, collaboration, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to engage technical and business stakeholders effectively
