The Retail Accountant is responsible for supporting the Retail Finance Team of Lindt & Sprungli (Canada), Inc and will report to the Accounting Manager. This position will be responsible assisting in internal and external reporting of the retail business, and the day-to-day operational support of the retail operations. This position involves general ledger management, financial reporting, management reporting, cash management, internal controls support and operational support for the retail business. The role will have contact with senior-level members of the organization including Directors, VPs and Controllers. The successful candidate will require: strong interpersonal communication skills, attention to detail, and have the ability to manage competing priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the monthly, quarterly and year-end financial close and reporting process; including but not limited to the preparation and processing of journal entries, monthly general ledger review and preparation of reporting and analytics, etc.
  • Responsible for reconciliation of Retail related balance sheet accounts, ie: Bank, Gift Card liabilities, Prepaids etc. and other account reconciliations
  • Support the ongoing review of current practices/policies; designing modifications partnering with Business Areas and IT to continually improve day to day processes and system functionality.
  • Ensure continuous process improvements and automation of key financial processes.
  • Assist in Retail expense planning during forecast cycles – Budget & latest estimates
  • Responsible for understanding the core concepts of the IFRS 16 Leasing Standards
  • Support reconciling daily sales/cash/gift card/coupon activity and weekly cash logs; following up with store management and regional managers as needed. Ensure stores adhere to Retail Operation Policies & Procedures.
  • Primary finance support to Store Management regarding Cash Reconciliation, Micros, Merchant Services, Gift Card and Bank, etc. issues.
  • Key Liaison for our Merchant Services, Gift Card and Amex partners (new store setup, queries, operations support, reconciliations and charges, etc.).
  • Support new store openings (set up licenses, banking (including locations) and merchant services agreements).
  • Responsible for ensuring operations related documentation are received and maintained (leases, rental advices, merchant service agreements, licenses, investment request, etc.); lease schedule and rent roll are maintained.
  • Support Retail Operations in ensuring that their processes and practices are in line with Lindt’s finance manual.
  • Support retail operations initiatives/projects as required.
  • Ensure continuous process improvements and automation of key operation processes.

Qualifications:

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in Accounting & Finance (retail experience essential).
  • Completion of an accounting designation (CPA CA, CGA, CMA) or working towards completion.
  • Demonstrated experience with account analysis, cash reconciliations and general retail accounting.
  • Proficient in Excel, Financial ERP systems (SAP preferred)
  • Solid understanding of Accounting Standards and Principles (IFRS), as well as retail internal controls.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to deal with constantly changing requirements and priorities.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Periodic travel may be required.
