About the role.
This role is a temporary 9-month position. The FSQ technician I is responsible for performing a series of tests (safely) on the sample product, for operating all relevant equipment in QC lab (lab fryer, length classifier, salt analyzer, etc.), and for grading the final product based on test results using specification provided by the customer.
What you’ll be doing.
- Work under the direction of and report to the Quality supervisor
- Comply with all McCain QC procedures, safety policies and regulations.
- Perform a Packaging check on the lines and collect product samples from the packaging on set frequency.
- Perform a series of Quality tests on the sample product, operating all relevant equipment in QC lab (lab fryer, length classifier, salt analyzer, etc.).
- Using specifications provided by the customer, grade the final product based on test results.
- Collect swabs for microbiological testing both pre-operatively (before production begins) and during operations as required, ensuring adherence to sampling protocols for sanitation verification.
- Must learn how to use SAP, Product vision, and SPC software.
- Completion of records and distribution to appropriate personnel. Accurately relate/maintain all required documentation.
- Communicate test results to resolve quality issues with Supervision and Operators on a regular basis.
- Participate in metal detector and x-ray validations.
- Provide relevant training or guidance to new team members in QC/FSQ protocols, safety practices, and equipment operation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Perform housekeeping in work area to maintain established standards.
- Provide help in other areas of Quality Control, including filling in for QC tech/ Micro Tech/Lead Hand when required.
- Actively participate in safety, food safety culture and promote teams engagement.
This position is based in a regulated manufacturing environment and requires strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Employees must consistently follow all GMP, safety, and hygiene requirements, including restrictions on jewelry, personal items, and attire while on the production floor. Compliance with these standards is an essential duty of the role to ensure product quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
What you’ll need to be successful.
- Ability to work on a rotating shift basis.
- Adheres to all company rules, regulations and policies and all relevant rules, regulations and policies.
- Effective written, oral, mathematical and interpersonal skills.
- Previous Quality Control experience is a definite asset.
- Familiar with the safe handling of chemicals in accordance with WHMIS and McCain Policies.
- Physically capable of performing all required duties including heavy lifting (up to 50lbs).
- High School graduate or Grade 12 GED.
- Successful completion of a 90-day familiarization period is required.
- Must have strong communication skills and ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Must attend yearly internal sensory training.
- Must have safe work habits.
- Must have strong computer, mathematic, and organizational skills.

Compensation Package: - Starting at 32.97 CAD hourly + Hourly Pay Differential for applicable shifts
