As a Business Strategist at Supply Management, you will facilitate strategic and outcome-focused discussions with business unit teams across The City, Supply leadership, external customers, and other interested parties to develop and execute on business unit strategies. Strategies developed and implemented by this position must be in adherence to public procurement law, compliance, bylaws, council/corporate direction, Council and Administration policy alignment, business planning, business continuity, risk management, quality management, operational and systems controls, performance measurement, and internal and external audits.
You are a self-motivated individual with advanced strategic and analytical skills who thrives in a collaborative and dynamic work environment. You must be adept at facilitating conversations and building effective relationships. You will also be responsible for gathering qualitative and quantitative information to make evidence-based recommendations. Primary duties include:
- Provide procurement support to City business unit teams during the planning phase of the procurement process.
- Create, develop, and execute high-profile strategic initiatives that significantly advance Council and administrative directions of which the business unit is the steward for The Corporation.
- Research, compile, and analyze service data, trends, gaps, and opportunities.
- Package data findings and analysis into dashboards, summaries and/or reports for different audiences, including Senior Administration, Council and Supply leadership.
- Identify and lead strategic initiatives, programs and projects made up of subject matter experts from within Supply, other business units, external bodies, and external interested parties.
- Identify areas of improvement within Supply and other business units by defining and examining processes and designing strategic implementation plans.
- Develop reports, draft memos, recommendations and presentations to Senior Leadership, internal and external partners.
- Build and maintain internal and external relationships and partnerships.
- Participate in business-unit and cross-corporate committees and community-based initiatives.
Qualifications
- A degree in Business, Science, Management, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of related experience in supply management or transformational initiatives.
- Experience in qualitative or quantitative data gathering is required.
- Completion of a Certified Public Professional Buyer (CPPB); OR Completion of a Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) Designation from Supply Chain Canada (SCC, formerly SCMA or PMAC) is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in professional public sector purchasing, contract law, trade agreements in an organization of similar complexity and diversity is considered an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to prepare visual and compelling presentations will be considered an asset.
- Experience writing memorandums, briefings and reports to business unit leadership, Senior Management and elected officials will be considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and strategic thinking skills are essential as well as the ability to prioritize within tight deadlines, work independently and pay strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills with the ability to influence others and build consensus.

- Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $48.54 - 64.88 per hour
- Hours of work: Standard 35-hour work week.
- Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3-week cycle.
