As the Technical Documentation Specialist, you will be responsible for the creation, update, and management of clear, easy-to-understand technical documentation including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Emergency Response Plans (ERPs), and Code of Practices (COP). Primary duties include:
- Manage Standard Operating Procedures including the design, development and implementation of quality technical documentation that clearly outlines processes and complies with guidance for safety practices and public health and environmental regulations
- Design, develop and update of technical documentation that supports safe and consistent work practices in the field operations including Emergency Response Plans (ERPs), Code of Practice documents (CoPs), etc.
- Oversee standards, protocol, and methodology for technical documentation.
- Play an administrative role with the documentation database used to manage the technical documentation in the field operations.
Qualifications
- A completed 2 year diploma in in Information Design, Business Administration, Training, Communications, Technical Writing or a related discipline with at least 4 years of experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating technical documentation in an operational environment OR;
- A degree in Information Design, Business Administration, Training, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related discipline with at least 2 years of experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating technical documentation in an operational environment.
- Writing of technical procedures based on in person engagement with subject matter experts is required.
- Previous experience and/or training with business process analysis or development would be an asset.
- Applicants with experience as an administrator of a compliance management systems software or documentation database would be desirable (ie, Navex Global's Policy Tech).
- Success in this position requires the ability to work independently, take initiative and solve problems.
- Well-developed critical thinking and communication skills will be important to help synthesize complex technical information.
- A strong client service orientation and the ability to work effectively with a diverse client group is essential.
- Must possess strong organizational and time management skills and have a demonstrated proficiency in effective management of projects.
Working Conditions: Office environment with occasional site visits which require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

- Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $41.49 - 55.51 per hour
- Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.
- Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
