The City of Edmonton’s Business Financial Analytics section is looking for a BFA Accountant to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play a critical role in supporting client operations through financial planning, forecasting, and budget development. Your expertise will directly inform meaningful recommendations, ensuring our business areas have the financial insights they need to succeed. If you are a collaborative problem-solver who excels at variance analysis and complex grant compliance, we encourage you to apply!

What will you do?

  • Provide strategic financial analytics, consultative advice, and decision support to client business areas (including Parks and Roads Services) to facilitate strong financial governance and stewardship over operating budgets.
  • Facilitate forecast and budget preparation across client business areas, including entering data into the Capital Operating Budget System, validating adjustment requirements, and evaluating alternative funding sources.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, Senior Accountants, and the Finance Manager to develop ad-hoc reports, conduct historical budget and actual variance analyses, and build financial data for Council and Committee reports.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and operating performance reports, balance sheet reconciliations, non-consolidated working papers, and business area packages.
  • Execute month-end cutoff requirements, record transactions, process SAP adjustments, and complete monthly GST reporting in compliance with corporate accounting policies and procedures.

  • Continuously improve accounting processes and procedures to meet client needs alongside organizational and technology changes.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
