Curriculum, Career Education and Assessment (CCEA) Division
The Curriculum, Career Education and Assessment (CCEA) Division provides strategic leadership for Alberta's K-12 curriculum, career education, and provincial assessment programs. The division develops and maintains curriculum, learning resources, policies, and assessment frameworks that support student achievement and well-being. Through collaboration with education partners, CCEA advances innovative learning opportunities and helps ensure Alberta students are prepared for future education, careers, and lifelong success.
Role Responsibilities
The Ministry of Education and Childcare is seeking an experienced and innovative leader to serve as Director, Exam Administration within Provincial Assessment.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Provincial Assessment, the Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the secure, fair, accessible, and reliable administration of Alberta's provincial assessment programs. This includes diploma examinations, Provincial Achievement Tests, field tests, Literacy and Numeracy Screeners, and the Canadian Adult Education Credential assessment program. The position is accountable for the end-to-end administration lifecycle, including operational planning, assessment production readiness, registration, scheduling, delivery, accommodations, monitoring, incident response, scoring support, results processing, and continuous improvement.

As business owner of the Digital Assessment Platform (DAP), the Director leads the province's transition to and operation of digital assessment delivery, ensuring platform reliability, security, accessibility, service excellence, and operational readiness across Alberta. The role works closely with schools, school authorities, post-secondary institutions, technology partners, government stakeholders, and service providers to support successful provincial assessment administration.
As the Director, Exam Administration you will:
- Lead province-wide assessment administration and ensure alignment with approved legislation, policies, standards, and operational requirements.
- Lead assessment integrity, exam security, and administration oversight activities, including the development and implementation of standards, incident management processes, investigations of administration irregularities and contraventions, and continuous improvement measures that support public confidence in provincial assessments.
- Provide executive oversight of the Digital Assessment Platform, including service delivery, release readiness, operational governance, incident management, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee assessment production, administration, scoring support, accommodations, results processing, and reporting activities.
- Ensure equitable access to provincial assessments through accessible practices, accommodations, and special-case administration processes.
- Lead risk management, privacy, security, and business continuity planning to protect program integrity.
- Build strong partnerships with school authorities, educational stakeholders, technology providers, and ministry partners.
- Direct strategic planning, workforce development, financial management, service modernization, and organizational change initiatives.
- Support the evaluation and responsible use of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, to improve operations and service delivery.

Qualifications
Minimum Recruitment Standard:
A related bachelor’s degree in public administration, Business Administration, Law, Political Science, Human Resources, Education, or a related field, supplemented by seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience.
Assets:
- Significant experience leading large-scale, high-volume, deadline-driven programs or services with province-wide impact.
- Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams, operational performance, and organizational change.
- Experience leading digital service delivery, technology-enabled transformation, system implementation, or digital operations.
- Experience managing financial, human, contractual, and operational resources in a complex environment.
- Strong stakeholder relationship management skills and the ability to build partnerships across government, education sectors, and external organizations.
- Experience managing risk, privacy, security, compliance, and business continuity requirements.
- Excellent communication, judgment, negotiation, and strategic decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence tools and their application to operational efficiency, research, analysis, and service delivery
