Job SummaryThe Mine Practical Trainer reports directly to the Mine Training Coordinator and is responsible for developing, delivering, and continuously improving practical and classroom-based training programs that support safe, efficient, and effective mining operations.
What You'll Do:- Provide onboarding and practical training for new employees to ensure they can safely perform assigned job functions
- Train employees in the safe operation of powered mobile equipment and other mine-related equipment
- Instruct operators on equipment pre-operational inspections, operating procedures, preventive maintenance, and safe operating techniques
- Foster strong working relationships with employees, supervisors, and departments to support effective training and operational excellence
- Demonstrate and reinforce safe work practices, procedures, and regulatory compliance
- Monitor and evaluate employee competency and performance, including probationary employees, and provide feedback to supervisors and administrators
- Utilize training management systems and software, including SuccessFactors/myHR and SafetyCulture (Mitti), to administer training materials and maintain records
- Contribute positively to Training Department objectives and overall site performance through teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Develop, design, and deliver training programs for hourly and staff employees
- Evaluate departmental training programs, collect feedback and performance data, and recommend improvements
- Coordinate training activities with operational departments and monitor employee training progress and results
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee training records
- Participate in training needs analyses by collaborating with the Training and Mine Departments and staying current with regulatory changes, process improvements, equipment modifications, and operational requirements
- Support the continuous improvement of site training programs and materials
- Deliver classroom instruction and practical, hands-on training in operational environments
- Grade 12 diploma or GED, combined with a technical, mining, or equipment operations background
- Strong knowledge of underground mining operations, maintenance practices, and mobile equipment operation
- Extensive operating experience and demonstrated proficiency with Goodman and PMP Continuous Mining Borers
- Significant operational experience in Rehab mining activities, including Alpine Miner, Drum Miner, and haul car operations
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and the ability to promote a strong safety culture
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate training records and documentation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as SuccessFactors or similar learning management systems
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
- Working knowledge of Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) legislation and Saskatchewan Mine Regulations
- A collaborative and approachable leadership style that encourages employees and supervisors to seek guidance and support
- A willingness to learn, adapt, and continuously develop technical and instructional expertise
- Flexibility to adjust schedules and training plans to meet operational requirements and training demands
- Previous supervisory experience is considered an asset
