The Ministry of the Solicitor General's Private Security and Investigative Services Branch (PSISB) is seeking a collaborative and analytical professional to join our team as an Investigator. In this role, you will help promote compliance with Ontario's regulatory framework governing private security and investigative services by conducting inspections, investigations, compliance reviews, stakeholder outreach, and enforcement activities.
As part of a dynamic provincial team, you will work with businesses, training providers, law enforcement partners, government organizations, and members of the public to support education, compliance, and enforcement initiatives that contribute to public confidence and safety. About the jobIn this role you will :
• Conduct objective, fair, thorough, and timely inspections, investigations, and compliance reviews under the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005 and associated regulations.
• Assess regulatory compliance by gathering, reviewing, and analyzing evidence, records, documentation, and witness statements.
• Determine appropriate compliance and enforcement responses and make recommendations based on investigative findings and risk assessments.
• Prepare investigation reports, briefing materials, Crown briefs, correspondence, and recommendations.
• Conduct interviews with stakeholders, witnesses, business representatives, and other parties as required.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with police services, regulatory partners, government organizations, and industry stakeholders.
• Deliver outreach and education activities to support awareness and understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements.
• Analyze trends, risks, and emerging issues to support compliance strategies and regulatory priorities.
• Provide evidence and testimony in legal or administrative proceedings when required.
Note: This position may require extended or irregular work hours and travel throughout Ontario, including occasional travel to remote locations What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements• You have the ability to obtain and maintain Provincial Offences Officer status.
• The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional on the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's license before being hired.
Investigation, inspection and compliance experienceYou have:
• Experience conducting investigations, inspections, audits, compliance reviews, enforcement activities, or similar regulatory work.
• Experience gathering, evaluating, and documenting evidence and information to support findings and recommendations.
• Knowledge of investigative methodologies, interviewing techniques, and evidence management practices.
• Experience managing competing priorities and complex files in a fast-paced environment.
Legislative knowledgeYou have:
• Knowledge of legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to regulatory compliance, inspection, investigation, and enforcement activities.
• Experience interpreting and applying legislative and regulatory requirements to support decision-making and compliance outcomes.
• Knowledge of evidentiary requirements, administrative processes, and court or tribunal proceedings.
Analytical and problem-solving skillsYou have:
• Demonstrated ability to assess complex information, identify risks and trends, and make evidence-based recommendations.
• Experience conducting research, analyzing data, and identifying emerging issues that may warrant further compliance or enforcement action.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
Communication and relationship management skillsYou have:
• Strong verbal communication skills to conduct interviews, explain legislative requirements, provide guidance, and deliver presentations.
• Strong written communication skills to prepare reports, briefing materials, correspondence, and legal documentation.
• Experience building collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders and navigating sensitive or challenging situations.
• The ability to communicate complex information clearly and professionally while maintaining confidentiality.
Technical skillsYou have:
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications and other technology tools to prepare reports, presentations, correspondence, and briefing materials.
• Experience using electronic systems and online resources to conduct research, gather information, and support investigations.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing records, files, and documentation.
