Senior Software Engineer

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Our client is a dynamic Fintech-turned-Enterprise software company currently focused on the Canadian automotive finance sector, providing an innovative platform of Fraud Detection, Identity Verification, Anti-Money Laundering, and Income Verification solutions for automotive lenders and dealers. The team is expanding to enhance product capabilities and build new features that serve their clients better.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is eager to contribute to designing, building, and expanding the company's ecosystem, with a strong emphasis on security and compliance. This is a full-stack role with roughly a 70% backend / 30% frontend split, working primarily in NestJS. The ideal candidate is passionate about crafting powerful, efficient, and scalable services that drive better digital financial solutions for millions of Canadians. You will work closely with product and engineering to build and enhance core services, a React-based dashboard, monitoring and analytics capabilities, and vendor integrations. The team embraces AI-assisted development and expects engineers to use modern AI tooling thoughtfully.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain TypeScript services across the stack: NestJS backend services, a React dashboard (Vite, TanStack Query, Redux Toolkit, Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui), and MongoDB.
- Design and implement event-driven architectures on AWS using SQS, SNS, S3, and Lambda-based workers for webhooks and asynchronous processing.
- Build and manage well-documented public APIs, reliable webhook systems, and integrations with external vendors — identity, fraud, and payments providers.
- Build security in from the start — the team protects sensitive personal data and maintains SOC2 Type 2 compliance.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools (Cursor) to accelerate delivery while maintaining code quality and review rigor.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code, from unit and integration tests (Jest) to end-to-end tests (Playwright).
- Contribute to how software is shipped and run — Docker, GitHub Actions CI/CD, Terraform-managed infrastructure, and Datadog observability.
- Interface regularly with product, design, and engineering to define and deliver new features, and contribute actively to code reviews.

Must Have Skills:

- 3+ years of professional software development experience with strong TypeScript/Node.js skills.
- Proficient with NestJS and MongoDB (Mongoose) on the backend, React on the frontend.
- Hands-on experience with AWS or a comparable cloud platform, including queue/event-driven patterns (SQS, SNS, Kafka, Kinesis, or RabbitMQ).
- Daily hands-on use of AI coding assistants.
- Strong secure-coding practices.
- Experience building public APIs and integrating third-party services.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment.

Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience integrating AI vendor APIs.
- Innovation mindset — prototypes quickly, shares findings.
- Experience with GitHub Actions and Terraform.
- Fintech or other regulated-environment experience (SOC2, PIPEDA).
