We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering Co-op student to join Nutrien's Redwater, Alberta Nitrogen Operations (approximately 40km NE of Edmonton) for an 8-month work term beginning January 2027. This temporary, full-time role is open to students who will be returning to school after the co-op term.
Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with a proven ability to effectively organize, coordinate, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously. You will possess exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, enabling them to build strong relationships and convey information clearly and professionally. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills will allow candidates to analyze complex situations, identify effective solutions, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. What You'll Do:- Lead design changes for mechanical plant improvements. This will include stationary (piping, vessels, heat exchangers) and rotating equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical problems within the production units
- Assist in Root Cause Failure Analyses and lead follow-up work
- Contribute to project work encompassing scope definition, tender document creation and ongoing support of contracts
- Assist maintenance engineers in detailed technical evaluations
- Preform in field task support, troubleshooting, and failure analysis
- Work with site trades groups, planners, engineers, and inspectors
- Analyze maintenance history and failure data to prioritize issues and opportunities
- Demonstrate a safe work attitude and support our commitment to zero initiative
- Currently enrolled and completed at least 2 years of an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering required
- Knowledge of pressure vessels, piping codes, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, and NDT inspections is an asset
- Demonstrated time management skills to meet deadlinges as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
- Excellent computer skills including:
- standard Microsoft Office software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- calculations software (Matlab, CodeCalc) is an asset
- drafting/sketching software experience is an asset
