AtkinsRéalis is in search of a Electrical Designer to work within a multi‑discipline team to design efficient and reliable electrical substations and distribution network. They will assist Design Engineer to coordinate design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. They will also assist the estimating team in preparation of estimates and project proposals, as required. This position is accountable to provide all design activities in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all of AtkinsRéalis ' policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control.

Your role
  • Develop plan and profile drawings of Overhead lines and underground Cables for distribution network in coordination with lines engineer.
  • Assist design engineer to develop underground cable routing conduit and trench plan layout and sections for distribution network.
  • Perform Design Calculations for conductor and cable sizing, overhead poles, underground cable conduit sizing and arrangement.
  • Perform pricing estimates using data from the utility material database.
  • Assist Design Engineers in the preparation of Power Single Line Diagram, Relay and Metering One‑line diagram and Communication architectural block diagram.
  • Prepare Bills of Materials and Cable Schedules.
  • Work closely with peers and other discipline designers to ensure accurate delivery that will meet utility Standards, industry standards and meet good engineering practices, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain good working relationship with internal groups that support the project.

About you
  • An associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from a recognized Institution.
  • A minimum of 4‑6 years of experience as Designer in the field of Transmission and Distribution is considered to have gained the required experience for the position.
  • Good knowledge of North American codes and standards such as IEEE and ANSI.
  • Proficiency in Bentley MicroStation, GNET or similar GIS SW, ProjectWise, SAP is a must. AutoCAD proficiency is considered an asset.
  • Experience in Toronto Hydro or other distribution utility CADD Standards is a must.
  • Experience in using Software like SpidaCalc and Cable pull planner will be an asset.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
