Your opportunity:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Administration & Finance and the supervision of the Grant and Financial Administrator, the incumbent provides financial and research grant administrative support for the various labs and initiatives at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, in particular the Local Government Revenue Initiative (LoGRI).
Your responsibilities will include:
- Applying the generally accepted accounting principles to all financial tasks
- Processing accounts payable according to the University Guide to Financial Management
- Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on funding accounts for grants and contracts.
- Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations.
- Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on trust accounts.
- Checking that prior approvals are obtained prior to processing transactions.
- Keeping well-informed on key University and sponsor policies and trends.
- Liasing with clients and vendors to resolve minor complaints and address issues.
Essential Qualifications:
- Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in Commerce, Accounting, Business Management or Finance, acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum three years of recent and relevant financial and accounting experience in an educational or public sector with experience administering research grant and budgets.
- Experience administering various accounts, accounts payable and purchasing activities.
- Experience applying University of Toronto policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in working with developing, maintaining and analyzing reports.
- Experience in processing invoices and conducting financial reconciliation.
- Experience facilitating advanced queries and reports in databases.
- Experience with FIS or SAP based financial systems.
- Experience identifying and resolving individual financial discrepancies and bring forward for resolution.
- Experience monitoring, reconciling and reporting funding accounts for research budget and grants.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially with Excel spreadsheet
- Excellent problem solving, multi-tasking and analytical skills.
- Excellent decision-making and communications skills.
- Advanced skills in University's Administrative Management System (e.g. FIS, HRIS) or other related systems.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
