Purpose:

We are currently recruiting for a Project Engineering Manager, Mining. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Project Engineering Manager provides leadership and direction for the engineering delivery of complex, multidisciplinary mining projects across Pre-Feasibility, Feasibility, FEED, detailed engineering and EPC/EPCM execution.

The role is accountable for the safe, timely and cost-effective delivery of the engineering scope, with a primary focus on technical integrity, design quality and alignment with project objectives. Working closely with project management, procurement, project controls, construction and commissioning teams, the Project Engineering Manager ensures engineering activities are effectively integrated across the project lifecycle.

The Project Engineering Manager also serves as a key technical interface with the client, supporting alignment of scope, execution priorities, project risks and technical decisions.

Responsibilities:

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Work with project and portfolio leadership to establish and execute projects in accordance with Worley’s health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Demonstrate visible leadership and an active commitment to Life and zero-harm project delivery.
  • Ensure engineering solutions consider safe construction, operation, maintenance, commissioning, decommissioning and demolition.
  • Promote the application of Safe and Sustainable Engineering throughout project planning and execution.

Engineering and EPC/EPCM Project Delivery

  • Lead the engineering component of multidisciplinary EPC and EPCM projects from studies and FEED through detailed engineering, procurement, construction support, commissioning and handover.
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee engineering and design activities across disciplines, ensuring technical interfaces and dependencies are identified and effectively managed.
  • Integrate engineering execution with procurement, project controls, construction and commissioning requirements to support safe, predictable and efficient project delivery.
  • Work with project leadership to develop and implement the engineering delivery strategy, Project Execution Plan, Engineering SEAL Plan, workshare plan and other project-specific execution plans.
  • Ensure engineering activities and deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards, Worley requirements, client requirements, the Basis of Design and the Project Execution Plan.
  • Maintain the integrity of the technical scope and Basis of Design, ensuring assumptions, exclusions, design criteria, holds and areas of uncertainty are clearly documented and addressed.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables support procurement and construction requirements, including technical bid evaluations, vendor document integration, constructability reviews and field engineering support.
  • Coordinate engineering interfaces with clients, contractors, suppliers, vendors and construction teams to resolve technical and project delivery issues.
  • Ensure engineering and design systems, technical specifications, models, standard drawings and data-management systems are appropriately established and effectively used.
  • Promote data-centric project delivery and the effective use of digital tools and technologies to improve collaboration, quality and execution efficiency.
  • Protect technical integrity and design quality while balancing project scope, schedule, cost and delivery requirements.
  • Ensure designs meet or exceed engineering expectations for safety, quality, cost, constructability, operability, maintainability and performance.

Project Planning and Performance

  • Coordinate engineering input into the project schedule and approve the technical components of the overall execution plan.
  • Review discipline estimates and consolidate them into the overall engineering estimate, forecast or change request.
  • Establish engineering priorities, milestones, deliverables and resource requirements in alignment with the overall project schedule.
  • Monitor engineering performance against scope, schedule, budget, quality and productivity objectives.
  • Identify emerging delivery issues and implement recovery or corrective actions in collaboration with project leadership and discipline leads.
  • Support project management with forecasting, reporting and the evaluation of engineering progress and performance.
  • Coordinate with discipline managers to secure the resources, competencies and specialist support required for successful project delivery.

Change and Risk Management

  • Identify technical, execution and interface risks that could affect engineering, procurement, construction, schedule or cost performance.
  • Ensure engineering risks, assumptions and mitigation actions are appropriately documented, communicated and managed.
  • Identify changes to the technical scope and ensure they are evaluated and managed through established change-management processes.
  • Support the preparation of technical and commercial inputs for change requests, including scope definition, estimates, schedule impacts and execution requirements.
  • Ensure approved changes are communicated to the appropriate engineering disciplines and project functions.

Quality and Technical Assurance

  • Ensure the Engineering SEAL Plan is implemented and followed by the project technical team.
  • Coordinate client alignment on applicable technical assurance and SEAL requirements.
  • Plan technical peer reviews in consultation with the Director of Engineering and in accordance with Worley’s Technical Stewardship requirements.
  • Identify and implement additional technical reviews based on project complexity, risk and delivery requirements.
  • Through the lead discipline engineers, ensure engineering deliverables meet established quality objectives.
  • Ensure appropriate design verification, interdisciplinary reviews and checking activities are completed by suitably qualified and competent personnel.
  • Ensure engineering-related quality findings and action requests are addressed and closed in a timely manner.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Provide visible leadership to multidisciplinary engineering and design teams, creating clarity around technical requirements, priorities, accountabilities and project objectives.
  • Promote collaboration across engineering, procurement, project controls, construction, commissioning and other project functions.
  • Build effective working relationships with clients and project stakeholders, acting as a trusted technical and project delivery partner.
  • Facilitate timely technical decisions and escalate issues that could affect safety, quality, scope, schedule, cost or project delivery.
  • Assess the individual and collective competency of the technical team and address identified gaps through development, coaching, training or additional resourcing.
  • Mentor engineering team members and support a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement and technical excellence.

Workshare and Global Integrated Delivery

  • Support the development and implementation of the project’s Global Integrated Delivery and workshare strategy.
  • Define workshare technical scope, deliverables, interfaces, responsibilities and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate effectively with workshare offices and discipline leads to maintain alignment on priorities, schedule and technical requirements.
  • Oversee the technical quality and integration of work completed across multiple offices and delivery locations.
  • Address communication, coordination and interface issues that could affect workshare performance or project outcomes.

Document, Data and Information Management

  • Define project engineering data and document-management requirements for internally and externally developed information.
  • Ensure technical documents, supplier data, models and engineering information are managed in accordance with project, client and Worley requirements.
  • Ensure approved document-management systems, engineering systems and work processes are consistently used by the project team.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of client, project and Worley information and intellectual property.

What you will bring:
Technical and Industry Experience:

Industry and Project Delivery Experience

  • At least 15 years of engineering experience within mining, minerals, metals or a related industrial sector.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering delivery on large, complex and multidisciplinary mining projects.
  • Proven EPC and/or EPCM project delivery experience, with a strong understanding of the interfaces between engineering, procurement, project controls, construction and commissioning.
  • Experience working across multiple project phases, including Pre-Feasibility, Feasibility, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement support, construction support, commissioning and handover.
  • Experience with both open-pit and underground mining projects.
  • Experience coordinating distributed or global engineering teams and delivering work through workshare or Global Integrated Delivery models.
  • A track record of managing engineering scope, schedule, budget, quality, technical risk and change within a project environment.

Technical and Project Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary engineering delivery and the dependencies between engineering disciplines.
  • Broad knowledge of engineering principles, systems, work processes and deliverables across the project lifecycle.
  • Understanding of EPC/EPCM execution strategies, contracting interfaces, procurement requirements, vendor management and construction support.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering planning, estimating, scheduling, progress measurement, forecasting and performance management.
  • Experience applying technical assurance, design review, quality-management, risk-management and change-management processes.
  • Ability to interpret project objectives and translate them into clear engineering execution strategies, priorities and deliverables.
  • Working knowledge of constructability, operability, maintainability and commissioning considerations within engineering design.
  • Working knowledge of three-dimensional model navigation tools such as Navisworks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and coordinate multidisciplinary teams in a complex project environment.
  • Strong client-facing skills with the confidence to act as a key technical interface and trusted project partner.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical and project delivery issues clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • Recognized Engineering degree (or equivalent).
  • Current P.Eng. registration with EGBC, or registered P.Eng. in another Canadian Province or Territory and eligible for registration with EGBC.

For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is $180,925 to $212,853
