Your Opportunity

Stantec's Transportation team in Saskatchewan is growing and has an opening for an Intermediate Civil Designer. In this role, you will work collaboratively with engineers and senior design professionals to support transportation projects from conceptual design through detailed design and construction services. You will apply your developing technical expertise to prepare civil design models and drawings, contribute to project coordination, and support the delivery of infrastructure such as roads, bridges, railways, drainage systems, and related facilities.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Develop grading and drainage design models using Civil 3D and produce 2D plans, profiles, cross-sections, and earthwork volume calculations.
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed design drawings for site grading, drainage, earthworks, underground conveyance systems, roads, ponds, containment areas, excavations, and related civil infrastructure.
  • Complete quantity take-offs and material estimates using Civil 3D and spreadsheets.
  • Perform vehicle turning and swept-path analyses using AutoTURN.
  • Conduct self-checks of models and drawings and participate in design reviews and QA/QC processes with guidance from senior team members.
  • Provide input into task-level estimates, schedules, and change documentation.
  • Participate in model reviews, project team meetings, and client meetings, as required.
  • Apply established CAD standards, project procedures, and quality guidelines.
  • Perform field work as required on a seasonal basis.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Experience with InRoads or other CAD software is an asset.
  • Experience with Navisworks, Bluebeam, BIM 360, or ProjectWise is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of coordinate systems and their application to civil design.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documentation and apply them to assigned design tasks.
  • Practical understanding of civil engineering design concepts for grading, drainage, earthworks, and roads.
  • Ability to apply established client and project CAD standards consistently.
  • Working understanding of the project lifecycle, including design development and construction support.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to discuss assigned project components with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, coordination, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and independently on well-defined tasks.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites from time to time.
  • A valid driver’s licence.

Education and Experience

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a relevant equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Typically 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in engineering consulting, civil design, or the construction industry. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to complete moderately complex design assignments with general guidance. Experience supporting transportation projects is considered an asset.

Position will be a combination of office and field work. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
