As an Engineer – Protection and Control, you will contribute to the successful delivery of challenging and innovative projects in the power generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial sectors. Join our team of experts and play a key role in developing reliable, safe, and efficient electrical systems from concept through commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in identifying client needs, developing technical solutions, and preparing service proposals, project estimates, and scope definitions;
  • Design protection, control, automation, and supervisory systems for industrial facilities and electrical transmission and distribution networks;
  • Act as a Discipline Lead and/or Project Manager for projects of varying scope and complexity, from preliminary studies through commissioning;
  • Prepare, review, and approve electrical drawings and diagrams, including single-line, three-line, logic, AC, and DC schematics, as well as other technical documents required for project execution;
  • Develop equipment specifications, construction and installation specifications, engineering reports, and calculation packages in accordance with applicable industry codes and standards;
  • Supervise and review detailed design deliverables, including wiring diagrams, interconnection drawings, cable schedules, material lists, and related documentation;
  • Perform technical studies such as protection coordination, short-circuit, arc flash, selectivity, and power system performance analyses;
  • Ensure designs comply with client requirements, the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), CSA standards, IEEE standards, and industry best practices;
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated and optimized engineering solutions;
  • Provide technical support during procurement, manufacturing, construction, installation, commissioning, and startup activities;
  • Participate in design reviews, factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and field commissioning activities as required;
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships by acting as a trusted technical advisor and identifying opportunities for future collaboration;
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, methodologies, and best practices, while mentoring junior engineers and designers;
  • Conduct site visits to collect field data, support project execution teams, and verify the quality of completed work;
  • Travel to project sites as required.

Your Qualifications

Your application will stand out if you possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in protection, control, and automation engineering;
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and membership in a Canadian engineering regulatory body;
  • Strong knowledge of protection, control, and automation systems for high-voltage and medium-voltage substations and power systems;
  • Experience in consulting engineering, hydroelectric generating facilities, industrial power systems, and/or projects with Canadian electric utilities;
  • Experience performing protection coordination, short-circuit, arc flash, and power system studies;
  • Familiarity with electrical design standards, including the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), CSA, IEEE, and utility-specific requirements;
  • Knowledge of protection relay configuration and settings (asset);
  • Experience with factory testing, field commissioning, and system startup activities (asset);
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken;
  • Ability to communicate in French is considered an asset and facilitates collaboration with Quebec-based clients and internal teams;
  • ASP Construction Health and Safety Card (or willingness to obtain one);
  • Strong communication, leadership, and client relationship management skills
