Your Opportunity

The role of an Intermediate Civil Technologist is to work as a key member of multidisciplinary project teams supporting the civil design delivery of infrastructure, municipal, public realm, and land development projects for our expanding list of clients. Working alongside lead engineers, project managers, and intermediate and junior engineering and technical staff, the Civil Technologist will support the preparation of civil models, design drawings, technical deliverables, and construction-ready packages across multiple phases of project development.

The Stantec Community Development group in British Columbia provides services to both public and private sector clients across the province. In this role, the successful candidate will collaborate with our Canada West Infrastructure teams and support civil design needs across municipal infrastructure, transportation, airports, ports and marines, and other major infrastructure projects. This work may include roadway and utility design, as well as site grading and servicing, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, shallow utility coordination, and drawing package development for development projects ranging from infill and brownfield redevelopment to greenfield development and public space improvements. Your Key Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of the Project Manager, Project Lead Engineer, or Community Development Discipline Lead, perform complex civil engineering-support and design tasks on assigned infrastructure and land development projects. Responsibilities may include preparing civil models, alignments and profiles, corridor models, grading designs, stormwater and utility networks, pipe network layouts, erosion and sediment control plans, quantity take-offs, drawing packages, and technical inputs to engineering reports.

• Prepare and support designs through conceptual, preliminary, functional, detailed design, tender, and construction-ready stages, including support during construction administration, field review, and Engineer of Record review activities as required.

• Coordinate with internal disciplines, technical staff, external consultants, clients, municipalities, provincial agencies, and other approving authorities to help advance designs, resolve technical issues, and support permitting and approval processes.

• Broad civil design experience across municipal roadways, utilities, public space, commercial, residential, industrial, institutional, transportation, buildings, and major infrastructure sectors would be an asset, as would familiarity with BC municipal design guidelines, servicing requirements, and local approval processes.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Effective communication skills and aptitude for technical leadership within the group.

• Strong ability to effectively identify and discuss project issues within Project Teams and at times in front of Clients and stakeholders as required on a project-by-project basis.

• Excellent time-management skills and ability to work independently.

• Understanding of project scoping, task identification and resource assignments, scheduling, budgeting and efficient use of time and resources.

• Willingness to provide mentoring and share technical knowledge with junior designers & EIT’s to support the growth and technical excellence of the team.

• Thorough understanding of applicable design guidelines and codes for relevant jurisdictions in British Columbia.

• Strong understanding and proficiency in the use of relevant design software, which includes AutoCAD, Civil3D, and AutoTURN.

Education and Experience

• Engineering Design and Drafting Diploma

• Minimum of 5+ years of directly related professional experience

Position will primarily work in an office setting. Stantec is also prepared with the infrastructure available to support individuals working with a hybrid schedule from home.
