The Opportunity

Innovate and Lead

In this role, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, collaborating on transformative projects that push the boundaries of what's possible. If you're looking for a challenge that offers both career growth and the chance to make an impact, this is the opportunity for you.

#GlobalMining

Based in Vancouver, Calgary, or Edmonton, you'll contribute as a Senior / Principal Geoscientist / Geochemist / Hydrogeochemist, providing subject-matter leadership in mineralogy, geology, metal leaching, acid rock drainage, and mine-water geochemistry. You'll guide complex assignments from baseline studies and mine design through environmental assessment, permitting, construction, operations, and closure, while building trusted client relationships and developing the next generation of technical professionals.

Your Impact

  • Lead geochemistry and hydrogeochemistry programs that strengthen mine design, environmental assessment, permitting, construction, operations, and closure decisions.

  • Deliver geochemical baseline studies and predictive modelling that connect mineralogy, metal leaching, acid rock drainage, surface water, groundwater, hydrology, hydrogeology, and water treatment.

  • Guide multidisciplinary teams in developing technically defensible environmental impact assessment submissions, translating complex evidence into clear strategies for clients and regulators.

  • Drive project identification, scoping, proposal development, and client engagement to expand WSP's mining geochemistry services and create enduring partnerships.

  • Provide qualified professional and health and safety site visits that support accountable technical oversight and safe project delivery.

  • Strengthen technical excellence by mentoring junior professionals, reviewing complex work, and advancing consistent geochemical methods, tools, and knowledge across WSP.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • A degree in geology, geoscience, geochemistry, or hydrogeology, combined with 10+ years of mining industry experience; an MSc or PhD in geochemistry, geology, geological engineering, hydrology, chemistry, or a related field is an asset.

  • Recognized subject-matter expertise in mineralogy, geology, metal leaching, and acid rock drainage, with the judgement to guide technically complex mining assignments.

  • Proven experience leading and delivering geochemistry projects across mine design, environmental assessment, permitting, construction, operations, and closure.

  • Demonstrated experience delivering geochemical baseline and modelling studies for environmental impact assessment submissions, supported by knowledge of surface water–groundwater interactions, hydrology, hydrogeology, and water treatment.

  • Strong capability in business development, client engagement, project identification and scoping, multidisciplinary proposal leadership, and project delivery; project management certification such as PMP is an asset.

  • Registration as a Professional Geoscientist in British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, or Alberta, or eligibility to obtain registration within 6 months of starting with WSP.

  • Experience conducting qualified professional and health and safety visits to mine projects, mentoring junior staff, and travelling to project sites; a valid driver's licence is an asset.

  • Proficiency with geochemical and mining software such as MIN3P, PHREEQC, Geochemist's Workbench, GoldSim, ioGAS, or Leapfrog; experience with EQuIS, Access, Power BI, Python, R, or Excel macros is an asset.
