Help shape the future of environmental restoration and radiation safety in Canada. As a Junior Radiation Protection Technician (6-month contract), you'll join the team supporting the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI), one of Canada's most significant environmental cleanup programs. Working alongside experienced radiation protection professionals, you'll contribute to the safe management of historic low-level radioactive waste while helping restore land for future generations.
This opportunity is to join the WSP team responsible for the execution and construction of the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI), the federal government's response to the community-requested solution for the cleanup and long-term management of historic low-level radioactive waste in the municipalities of Port Hope and Clarington.
Please note that candidates from across Canada will be considered; however, this role is based on-site in Port Hope, Ontario.
Your Impact
- Support the day-to-day operation of the site's radiation protection program.
- Measure gamma radiation fields and conduct surface contamination monitoring using radiation detection equipment and swipe sampling techniques.
- Deploy radon monitors and help ensure calibration of all radiation detection equipment.
- Compile, summarize, and analyze routine radiation protection data for inclusion in project and regulatory reporting.
- Ensure compliance with site radiation safety procedures for workers, contractors, and visitors.
- Support Class 7 TDG shipping.
- Provide responsive radiation protection support to site activities and construction operations.
- Collaborate with radiation protection and site management teams to safely advance remediation and restoration activities.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Nuclear Engineering, Radiation Protection, Health Physics, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated understanding of radiation safety principles appropriate to your education, training, and/or experience.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications to sort, analyze, and summarize routine data.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain complete, accurate, and organized records and documentation.
- Proven ability to perform assigned tasks diligently, safely, and thoroughly.
- Comfortable working primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions and active project environments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Eligible to obtain CNL Reliability Status (minimum three years of verifiable history in Canada, USA, UK, New Zealand, and/or Australia).

Compensation
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $66,700 - $88,400
MB & ON: $60,900 - $83,800
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $60,300 - $80,000
