Job Description: Operating in a complex and dynamic healthcare environment, the Scientist will have specific accountabilities which are aligned to that of the portfolio to support the achievement of the portfolio’s functions, responsibilities and accountabilities. This senior position reports directly to the Director, Laboratory Medicine Regina and Provincial Public Health Lead. The PhD Associate Scientist for Genomics is responsible for performing evaluation and development of new genomic testing methodologies including Next Generation Sequencing. Supporting NGS analysis including variant classification, troubleshooting of existing assays as required and development of an assay quality metric program to ensure all assays are subject to continuous quality monitoring.

Experience

  • Exp. in Molecular Biology laboratory is mandatory
  • Minimum two (2) yrs working in an accredited healthcare lab setting
  • Exp. with Next Generation Sequencing is an asset
  • Exp. in a clinical genetics laboratory is an asset

Education

  • A PhD in the field of human genetics, specifically incorporating techniques in Molecular Biology

License:

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

Other Education and Training

  • Courses related to statistics and Microsoft Excel preferred

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of molecular biology including techniques such as: Next Generation Sequencing, Sanger Sequencing, quantitative PCR, digital droplet PCR, repeat-primed PCR, multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA)
  • Knowledge of the American College of Medical Geneticists/American Molecular Pathologists (ACMG/AMP) variant classification guidelines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to perform basic statistics
  • Has demonstrated ability to coach and develop others
  • Has a proven ability to collaborate and partner with a wide variety of stakeholders, including community, to balance the needs and interests of these diverse groups while maintaining alignment with strategic priorities
  • Knowledge of legislation and applicable laws
