The Opportunity

Build the future with us at the heart of Québec’s mining industry. As a Team Leader – Tailings Management, you will join a team of more than 100 specialists dedicated to the design, construction, maintenance, and restoration of tailings facilities according to the highest industry standards, with a constant focus on environmental protection.

Based in the Québec City office and reporting to a Senior Manager, you will be responsible for managing a team of 5 to 10 people. You will also participate in large-scale multidisciplinary projects involving geotechnics, hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, and the environment, covering the full project lifecycle—from conceptual studies to on-site construction monitoring.

This hybrid role will allow you to combine leadership and technical expertise, ensuring team development while acting as an engineer on projects. You will play a key role in structuring and growing the team, with direct influence over direction and mandates.

Your Impact

• Lead and develop a team of approximately 5 to 10 professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, technical rigor, and continuous improvement.

• Ensure resource planning, performance management, and team growth.

• Promote talent retention and engagement by fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment focused on recognition.

• Take on a key technical leadership role in the geotechnical design of mining structures (tailings facilities, dams, waste rock piles), guiding engineering decisions toward safe, sustainable solutions aligned with industry best practices.

• Plan, coordinate, and supervise geotechnical investigation programs, ensuring integration of field and laboratory data into analyses and recommendations.

• Contribute to geotechnical analyses and numerical modeling to optimize the design of mining structures (stability, performance, long-term behavior) (asset).

• Conduct mine site visits and tailings facility inspections, identifying geotechnical risks and providing actionable recommendations to operations.

• Collaborate on studies integrating geotechnical, hydrological, hydrogeological, geochemical, and environmental components, working closely with internal WSP teams.

• Write or review clear, structured, data-driven technical reports to support client decision-making and regulatory compliance.

• Provide technical support to operating mining companies to optimize processes, improve infrastructure performance, and reduce geotechnical risks.

• Act as a mentor to junior engineers, both in engineering work and field activities, promoting knowledge transfer and best practices.

• Participate in business development by contributing to proposals and building trusted client relationships.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geological engineering, mining engineering, or a related discipline, with a strong interest in mining geotechnics.

• A master’s degree in geotechnics or a related field (asset).

• Membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ), or eligibility to obtain it in the short term.

• A minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in tailings management.

• Experience in managing technical projects, including planning and tracking schedules and budgets (asset).

• Experience in people management, including coaching, development, and performance evaluation (asset).

• Demonstrated leadership in health and safety, with a proactive risk management approach.

• Autonomy, sense of responsibility, and the ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary environment.

Compensation:

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $114,600 - $151,800
MB & ON: $104,500 - $143,900
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $103,500 - $137,400
