Detailed Overview
Transports patients, related patient documents and/or equipment; cleans and prepares related equipment and completes forms according to established policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Transports patients utilizing mechanical aids such as wheelchairs, and/or stretchers;
- Ensures patient's needs are attended to while being transported; deals effectively with patients in distress by reporting unusual patient conditions to the appropriate staff according to established procedures.
- Transports beds, equipment and materials as required; provides messenger service, as required
- Transports deceased patients from units to morgue and records necessary paper work in accordance with established procedures.
- Completes documentation such as the length of time to complete patient transport assignment and delays encountered; completes routine forms such as dispatch logs according to established procedures.
- Cleans equipment used in transport such as I.V. poles, stretchers and wheelchairs; changes linen; reports maintenance requirements and/or submits maintenance requests for patient transport equipment to appropriate staff/department.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Grade 10, plus one (1) year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to organize work.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
