Site Environmental Inspector (Levels I, II & III)

Bluelime Technical Services is seeking qualified Site Environmental Inspectors at various experience levels (Level I, II, and III) to support a utility client on transmission line, distribution line, station, and infrastructure projects across Northern Ontario.The successful candidates will be responsible for monitoring construction activities, ensuring environmental compliance, protecting sensitive environmental features, and supporting project teams in meeting regulatory, permitting, and environmental commitment requirements.Inspectors will work closely with utility client representatives, contractors, Indigenous communities, environmental consultants, and regulatory agencies to help ensure projects are completed safely and in compliance with applicable federal, provincial, and project-specific environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities

• Conduct environmental compliance inspections during construction activities.
• Monitor implementation of Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), permits, approvals, and environmental commitments.
• Inspect and document erosion and sediment control measures.
• Monitor work activities within and adjacent to watercourses, wetlands, woodlands, and sensitive habitats.
• Review contractor operations and verify compliance with environmental requirements.
• Identify environmental risks and recommend corrective actions.
• Document environmental observations, incidents, deficiencies, and resolutions.
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly environmental inspection reports.
• Maintain photographic records of site activities and environmental conditions.
• Participate in environmental audits, regulatory inspections, and environmental incident investigations.
• Provide environmental guidance and support to construction teams.
• Liaise with project stakeholders, Indigenous monitors, consultants, and regulatory agencies as required.
• Support reclamation, restoration, and vegetation management activities.
• Ensure compliance with applicable client health, safety, and environmental standards.

Level I – Junior Site Environmental InspectorExperience: 0–3 Years
Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Environmental Technology, Natural Resources, or a related discipline.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and environmental protection practices.
• Strong field observation and reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently in remote field environments.
• Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine environmental inspections under the guidance of senior staff.
• Assist with monitoring environmental protection measures.
• Complete field documentation and reporting.
• Support environmental compliance tracking and corrective action management.

Level II – Intermediate Site Environmental InspectorExperience: 3–7 Years
Additional Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience conducting environmental inspections on construction, utility, energy, mining, transportation, or infrastructure projects.
• Working knowledge of applicable federal and provincial environmental legislation.
• Strong understanding of erosion and sediment control, watercourse protection, vegetation management, and environmental permitting requirements.

Additional Responsibilities

• Independently oversee environmental compliance on active construction sites.
• Investigate environmental incidents and non-compliance issues.
• Coordinate corrective actions with contractors and project teams.
• Support environmental audits and regulatory interactions.
• Provide environmental training and guidance to field personnel.

Level III – Senior Site Environmental InspectorExperience: 7+ Years
Additional Qualifications

• Extensive experience managing environmental compliance on major infrastructure, utility, transmission, energy, or industrial projects.
• Thorough understanding of environmental permitting, environmental assessments, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
• Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills.
• Experience mentoring junior inspectors and coordinating environmental monitoring programs.

Additional Responsibilities

• Lead environmental inspection and compliance programs for major projects.
• Act as the primary environmental representative in the field.
• Provide strategic advice regarding environmental risk management.
• Coordinate with utility client project managers, regulators, Indigenous communities, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
• Support environmental planning, auditing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior environmental staff.

Preferred Qualifications – All Levels

• Environmental Professional (EP) designation or eligibility.
• Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) designation.
• P.Ag., RPBio, or P.Eng. designation (senior level preferred).
• Standard First Aid/CPR certification.
• Previous experience supporting utilities, power generation organizations, mining operations, renewable energy developments, or large infrastructure projects.
• Experience working with Indigenous communities and Indigenous Environmental Monitors.

Working Conditions

• Frequent travel throughout Northern Ontario.
• Work in remote locations and challenging terrain.
• Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Use of off-road vehicles, boats, helicopters, and snowmobiles may be required.
• Extended rotations and overnight stays may be required depending on project requirements.
