About the RoleAvana is seeking an accomplished and strategic VP, Finance & Accounting to help shape the financial future of our growing and evolving organization.
Reporting to the President, this role will play a critical part in shaping Avana's long-term financial strategy and supporting disciplined, sustainable growth. The VP, Finance & Accounting will lead the Finance and Accounting team and provide leadership across financial reporting and analysis, forecasting, project finance, investment oversight, development support, and long-range financial planning.
This is an opportunity for an experienced finance leader to make a meaningful impact across the organization by strengthening financial systems and processes, advancing the use of data and financial insight, supporting complex development and investment decisions, and building the financial capacity required for Avana's continued growth.
What You’ll DoAccounting & Financial Reporting
  • Lead financial reporting, forecasting, analysis, and financial systems oversight.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and meaningful reporting that provides senior leadership and external stakeholders with clear visibility into financial performance.
  • Strengthen reporting processes, internal controls, documentation, and financial discipline.

Finance, Capital & Investment Oversight
  • Lead project finance planning and execution across development, acquisition, and operating initiatives.
  • Support capital planning, cash flow forecasting, financing strategies, and investment analysis.
  • Partner with senior leadership to evaluate opportunities, risks, and financial performance while maintaining disciplined financial processes and controls.

Development Support
  • Provide financial analysis and insight for land acquisitions, development pro formas, project feasibility, planning, and cash flow requirements.
  • Monitor project financial assumptions against actual performance and changing market conditions.
  • Collaborate across development, construction, operations, and executive leadership to ensure financial analysis supports sound project decisions and execution.

Long-Range Financial Planning
  • Lead Avana's long-range financial and cash flow planning, including stabilized profitability and liquidity planning.
  • Develop NetSuite into a reliable source of data and insight for long-range decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen liquidity and continue building the strength of Avana's balance sheet.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Provide financial leadership, direction, and accountability within the team and across the organization while building scalable processes, reporting standards, and controls that support effective decision-making and organizational growth.
  • Partner with senior leadership to identify financial risks, opportunities, and process improvements while fostering a culture of accuracy, responsiveness, collaboration, and execution discipline.

  • Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting, along with reliable forecasting, to support executive decision-making.
  • Strengthen financial systems, controls, and processes to enable scalable growth.
  • ·Provide disciplined financial oversight of development projects, investments, capital allocation, and cash flow.
  • Enhance long-term financial planning, liquidity visibility, and overall balance sheet strength.
  • Build and lead a responsive, accountable, and collaborative finance team.

What You Bring
  • Strong financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis capability.
  • Ability to lead project finance execution and investment review.
  • Demonstrated understanding of development pro formas, cash flow planning, and project financial analysis.
  • Strong financial systems, process improvement, and internal control skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across development, operations, finance, and executive teams.
  • Objective and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Proactive planning, execution discipline, and accountability.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting, finance, financial reporting, project finance, or corporate finance experience.
  • CPA designation, with post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting real estate, development, construction, property management, or asset-intensive operations is considered an asset.
  • Strong financial modelling, forecasting, reporting, analysis, systems, and compliance skills.
  • Experience leading teams, developing financial processes, and supporting cross-functional business priorities.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
