OYA Black Arts Coalition (OBAC) is a Toronto-based registered charity empowering Black talent to advance their careers and shape the future of Canada’s screen sector.
Our mission is to equip Black media production professionals with the skills, network, and resources necessary to grow artistically and build sustainable careers and businesses in the screen-based media sector. OBAC’s work confronts the impact of systemic and institutional anti-Black racism in the screen media sector through culturally-informed mentorship, professional industry training, and by providing a space where experimentation and creative risk-taking are welcomed.
Position Summary: Events & Programs AssistantReports to: Manager, Community & Partnerships
The role will support the planning, coordination and delivery of OBAC’s programs, workshops, networking events and community initiatives. This position is designed for a student interested in event coordination, program delivery, and community engagement.
NOTE: This position is funded in part by the Culture Works Canada program. Candidates must be students (enrolled in an academic program), be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with planning and delivering in-person, virtual and hybrid events, workshops, panels and networking sessions.
  • Develop and maintain event timelines, schedules, run-of-show documents and planning checklists.
  • Coordinate logistics, including venues, catering, equipment, supplies, signage and accessibility needs.
  • Communicate with speakers, facilitators, vendors, participants and community partners.
  • Manage registration, attendance tracking, participant inquiries and event materials.
  • Provide on-site and virtual support, including setup, check-in, technical coordination and troubleshooting.
  • Support event promotion through newsletters, social media and partner outreach.
  • Complete post-event follow-up, including surveys, thank-you messages, expense tracking, documentation and outcome reporting.

Qualifications
  • Interest in event planning, program coordination, community engagement, and social-impact work.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and comfort using spreadsheets, CRM platforms and digital tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience or interest in outreach and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Interest in the arts, culture, film, television, digital media or non-profit sector, with availability for occasional evening or weekend events.
