The OpportunityThe Fuel Innovation Fund is seeking an experienced Technology Evaluation and Portfolio Coordinator to join a cross-functional team delivering clean-fuel funding programs across Canada. Reporting to both the Compliance Fund Director and Fuel Innovation Technology Director, this position provides critical support to the Technology Intake and Portfolio Management functions. It also plays a direct role in deploying compliance contributions to high-impact projects that deliver measurable environmental benefits and advance Canada's emissions reduction goals.To be effective in this role the candidate must:
  • Be passionate about emission reduction technologies and have an interest in directly contributing to the mandate of the Fuel Innovation Fund and its parent organization (ERA).
  • Bring strong project coordination, time management, technical communication, and analytical skills.
  • Collaborate effectively with a team of professionals dedicated to advancing clean fuel innovation and accelerating the development of innovative technologies.

Key ResponsibilitiesThis role will support the complete portfolio lifecycle from project intake through to project closeout. Project Intake (~0.5 FTE):Provide experienced coordination across proposal intake, evaluation planning, applicant communications, and evaluation administration. This includes:
  • Plan and coordinate FIF proposal evaluation activities, including intake timelines, review materials, project presentations, and evaluation consensus sessions.
  • Coordinate onboarding and engagement of external subject matter experts involved in proposal review, including scheduling, orientation materials, and evaluation-process guidance.
  • Manage proposal intake activities, including application data management, quality control reviews, proposal distribution, and proposal metrics reporting.
  • Support funding applicants throughout the intake process by providing guidance, responding to inquiries, delivering feedback, and serving as an application advisor.
  • Prepare and distribute applicant notification letters and related documents, and track receipt of required materials.
  • Support development of high-quality deliverables related to FIF funding programs such as briefing notes and technical recommendations.
  • Maintain and improve Word, Excel, and related templates used for proposal intake, evaluation tracking, and review documentation.
  • Support cross-program intake activities including proposal pre-screening, applicant communications, and coordinating proposal transfers between programs.
Portfolio Management (~0.5 FTE):Provide experienced coordination across portfolio administration, claims review, change management, project close-out, and process improvement. This includes:
  • Coordinate project change-management and project-completion processes, including tracking documentation, timelines, and required approvals.
  • Support management of project contracts and amendments.
  • Support Project Advisors in processing financial claims, including conducting quality assurance and quality control reviews of submissions.
  • Coordinate, review, and quality-control milestone claims and supporting financial and technical deliverables to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness for milestone payment requests, project change requests, and project close-out activities.
  • Monitor funded-project status, milestones, risks, and forecast inputs to support financial forecasting and delivery of project outcomes.
  • Identify and implement improvements to templates, policies, processes, and evaluation criteria to strengthen program delivery, consistency, and effectiveness.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Post-secondary education in business administration, project management, public administration, finance, engineering/science, environmental studies, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of related experience working in portfolio and project management or in relevant fields such as investments, innovation & technology development, the energy sector, emissions reduction and/or climate policy.
  • Must be a proficient Excel user capable of creating and maintaining large datasets, including the use of advanced formulas and analytical tools.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong initiative and ability to proactively identify solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and professional briefing notes, recommendations, applicant correspondence, notification letters, and process documentation.
  • Thrives in well-defined and dynamic planning and project cycles, with the foresight to anticipate upcoming deadlines.
  • Builds strong working relationships and collaborates effectively with team members to define outcomes and achieve results.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scientific business, finance, and project management principles.
  • Sound judgment, analytical thinking, and ability to assess risks, identify opportunities, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Strong stakeholder service orientation, with the ability to guide applicants, respond to inquiries, provide process support, and maintain professionalism with internal and external parties.
LocationThis position can be located at ERA’s Edmonton or Calgary office. At ERA, we support flexibility by offering employees the option to work remotely on some days, while spending most of their time collaborating in person at our office.
CompensationThe base salary for this position is between $83,000 – $93,000, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
