If you thrive in a collaborative environment and possess the operational excellence required to support the Event Team, then we think this is what you were meant to do as Platform Calgary’s newest Manager, Events.As the Manager, Events, you will be a central partner on the Events Team. Reporting directly to the VP Operations (Maternity leave), you will grow and lead the event service as a profitable business unit within Platform Calgary. We are looking for a team member who possesses the ability to engage effectively with our partners and stakeholders while understanding how their work supports our overarching strategic priorities.The Day-to-Day Activities
  • Core Function Support: Lead the growth and profitability of the events business unit, ensuring high-quality execution for both internal signature events and external client bookings.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with the Partnerships Team to build relationships with high-value corporate clients, event associations, and community partners, while maintaining an "ultimate host" relationship with all event users.
  • Strategic Execution: Direct the strategy for signature Platform events (e.g., Innovation Week), lead initiatives to increase building utilization during underbooked "dark" days, and manage the launch of new event product offerings.
  • Asset & Resource Management: Own the P&L and budgeting processes, including annual and quarterly forecasting; leverage event software (Momentus), CRM (Hubspot), and GSuite tools to track building utilization, revenue, and performance metrics.
  • Team Collaboration: Oversee and develop the events team and external contractors, streamlining operational workflows to ensure internal efficiency and exceptional client satisfaction.
  • The Platform Way: Participate in Platform’s ongoing Continuous Improvement initiatives and embrace our "All Hands" values by assisting with internal events and other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Education:Post-secondary education in hospitality, special events/event management, or equivalent professional experience. An event management certificate is considered an asset.
  • Experience: Minimum 8+ years of experience leading an events team, designing and executing on events, event sales, and/or planning. Experience with venue management (50,000 sq ft or larger) is considered an asset. .
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in event software (e.g., Momentus), CRM (e.g., Hubspot), and GSuite (Sheets). Familiarity with AI tools to improve workflows is a major asset. .
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to act as a polished representative of Platform Calgary.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and see tasks through from planning to execution.
