Position Overview
Primary Responsibilities
- Create 3D CAD models (mechanical and layout) for brown- and green-field projects in the mining and heavy industrial sectors
- Interpret engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for piping, process equipment, material handling equipment, dust collection, heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems (HVAC), and structural systems (e.g., buildings, plants, trestles, platforms, and concrete)
- Create drawings and specifications for piping, process equipment, material handling equipment, dust collection, heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems (HVAC), and structural systems (e.g., buildings, plants, trestles, platforms, and concrete foundations)
- Create general arrangement drawings for piping, material handling equipment, dust collection and HVAC equipment, and supporting structures
- Assist in the preparation of bill of materials and cost estimates
- Maintain efficient inter-disciplinary communication
- Inspect mechanical installations and construction
- Assist in the preparation of proposal documents
- Mentor junior Mechanical Designers
- Site visits may be required to take field measurements and gather relevant site/project information
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Formal education and training in mechanical drafting and design from a recognized institution
- 10+ years of relevant experience
- Significant experience in 3D modeling in Autodesk software packages such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant3D, and Navisworks is a requirement for this position
- Experience in the mining industry and/or experience in heavy industrial work with brown- and green-field projects
- Hands on and extensive experience in one of the following modeling and drafting software is considered an asset: Bentley MicroStation, AVEVA E3D or similar
- Experience in SolidWorks, Bentley Openbuildings, AutoCAD MEP, and Revit is considered an asset
- Working knowledge in material handling of bulk solids
- Detail-oriented with a passion to create high quality deliverables
- Must be able to work as part of a team and independently
- Excellent communication skills
