Serendipity Media is looking for a confident and driven Paralegal to join its group in our Calgary office. The ideal candidate is expected to display sound judgment and decision-making with outstanding problem-solving and communication skills. As a Paralegal, you will:
  • Interact directly with Senior Counsel on transactions, as well as practice issues, policies, and procedures
  • Assist with preparation of media, sports, and entertainment agreements such as, development, production, finance, talent, distribution, licensing, endorsements, strategic ventures, and collaborations
  • Oversee and undertake incorporations
  • Prepare documents and attend to online filings with respect to incorporations, extra-provincial registrations, annual matters and regular maintenance in various jurisdictions
  • Create and maintain corporate records in Athennian entity management system
  • Assist in management of and closings for acquisitions, mergers and financings/loans including closing agendas, document preparation management
  • Communicating with clients regularly to update them on the status of their matters and handling questions about their matters
  • Coordinate between differing internal and external teams, including Accountants and outside counsel/paralegal/clerks with a high degree of professionalism
  • Other administrative support as required
About you:
  • Paralegal diploma, legal administration diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience as a paralegal
  • Strong corporate commercial law knowledge and drafting skills with experience in business purchases and sales, reorganizations, tax planning (such as estate freezes and rollovers) and financing/loans
  • Knowledge of or an interest in copyright and trademark acquisition and licensing, and business contracts for the production and distribution of entertainment content would be a bonus
  • Take pride in paying attention to details such as grammar, pagination, spelling and content accuracy
  • Can manage in times of high volume of documentation and correspondence
  • Demonstrated ability to manage files and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail and follow through with a team attitude that no job is too big or too small, a team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively as well as autonomously while effectively prioritizing competing tasks in a fast-paced, challenging environment
