About the Opportunity:
Imagine helping build the next generation of AI-powered products that transform how Commercial Banking teams work, serve clients, and make decisions. As a Product Owner within the AI & Analytics team, you will operate at the intersection of business, technology, data, and user experience, turning complex challenges and promising ideas into solutions people will use and that deliver measurable value.

You will lead discovery, shape product direction, translate user and business needs into clear priorities, and guide AI-enabled capabilities from concept through delivery, adoption, measurement, and continuous improvement. This newly created role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, takes ownership, and is inspired by turning vision into meaningful outcomes across Commercial Banking.

Product Owner, AI & Analytics

What if your next role wasn't about managing a backlog?

What if it was about transforming complex business problems into AI-powered products that change how bankers work, how clients are served, and how decisions are made?

As a Product Owner within BMO's AI & Analytics team, you will help shape and deliver innovative products that leverage analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven insights to solve real business challenges across Commercial Banking.

You will work directly with business leaders, relationship managers, sales professionals, data scientists, engineers, and product partners to translate ideas into solutions that drive measurable business value.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, loves solving complex problems, and enjoys turning vision into reality.

What You'll Do

Turn Ideas Into Products

Take business opportunities, customer problems, and strategic concepts and transform them into clear product capabilities, experiences, requirements, and delivery plans.

You will help answer questions such as:

  • What problem are we solving?
  • Who are we solving it for?
  • What should the experience look like?
  • How do we deliver the greatest business value first?
  • How do we turn an idea into something users will actually adopt?

Lead Discovery and Shape Product Direction

Partner with business stakeholders to understand challenges, opportunities, workflows, and user needs.

Facilitate discovery discussions that uncover insights and translate stakeholder feedback into actionable product requirements.

Gather and synthesize customer, business, operational, and product insights to identify patterns, clarify opportunities, and inform product direction.

Examine existing workflows and business processes to identify opportunities for simplification, optimization, and improved business outcomes.

Challenge assumptions, ask thoughtful questions, and help teams focus on the problems that matter most.

Bridge Business and Technology

Act as the link between business stakeholders and delivery teams, translating business needs, user workflows, data requirements, and technology capabilities into clear product requirements.

Translate business needs into:

  • Product requirements
  • User stories
  • Acceptance criteria
  • Prioritized backlogs
  • Product roadmaps

Ensure teams have clarity on what needs to be built and why it matters.

Champion the User Experience

Advocate for the needs of end users throughout the product lifecycle.

Continuously evaluate how products can become:

  • Easier to use
  • More valuable
  • More actionable
  • Better aligned to user workflows

Drive AI Product Delivery

Work closely with:

  • Data Scientists
  • Data Engineers
  • Software Developers
  • Architects
  • Scrum Masters
  • Product Managers
  • Business Stakeholders

to bring AI-powered capabilities through the product lifecycle, from discovery and definition through development, implementation, adoption, measurement, and continuous improvement.

Help teams balance customer value, technical feasibility, delivery timelines, and business priorities.

Influence Without Authority

Build strong relationships across multiple stakeholder groups.

Navigate competing priorities, align diverse perspectives, and help teams make informed decisions that maximize business outcomes.

Success in this role requires strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.

What Makes Someone Successful In This Role

We are looking for someone who demonstrates:

Ownership and Initiative

You are proactive.

You don't wait for perfect information.

You take accountability for outcomes and consistently move work forward.

Strong Critical Thinking

You enjoy solving difficult problems.

You can take an abstract concept and turn it into a clear product vision, structured requirements, and an executable plan.

You ask insightful questions and can quickly identify what matters most.

You use data, customer insights, research, and sound judgment to evaluate options, make informed decisions, and identify the best path forward.

Business Acumen

You understand how businesses operate and how products create value.

Experience in financial services, banking, payments, lending, treasury, analytics, consulting, or related industries is highly valued.

Curiosity and Continuous Learning

You enjoy learning new domains, technologies, and business concepts.

You seek feedback, challenge assumptions, and continuously improve.

Product Mindset

You think beyond requirements.

You think about customers, adoption, outcomes, workflows, and long-term value creation.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

  • Typically 5-7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary education in a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in Product Ownership, Product Management, Business Analysis, Consulting, Strategy, or related disciplines
  • Experience translating business requirements into product requirements and user stories
  • Experience working with cross-functional delivery teams
  • Experience in financial services, banking, analytics, data products, digital products, or AI-enabled solutions
  • Experience supporting Agile delivery teams

Nice To Have

  • AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics experience
  • Jira, Rovo, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar tooling experience
  • Agile certifications or Product Owner certifications
  • Commercial Banking or Treasury & Payments experience

Why This Role Is Different

This is not a role focused solely on requirements gathering or backlog administration.

This is an opportunity to help define and build the next generation of AI-powered capabilities that will transform how Commercial Banking teams engage clients, generate insights, make decisions, and create value.

If you enjoy taking ideas from whiteboard discussions to real-world products used by thousands of users, we'd love to hear from you.
