Develops, architects, and delivers strategic technology platforms, frameworks, APIs, and shared services that enable business-critical applications and algorithmic trading capabilities across the enterprise. Defines and implements platform strategies that improve developer productivity, scalability, resiliency, and operational excellence. Utilizes creativity and innovation to create reusable technology capabilities that accelerate solution delivery while reducing complexity and risk. Applies deep technical expertise to design and evolve enterprise platforms that support high-performance, distributed applications and data-driven systems. Provides practical solutions to complex engineering challenges through sound architectural design, software engineering best practices, and technology leadership.

Accountabilities

  • Builds and evolves large-scale distributed platform services, APIs, frameworks, and developer tooling that enable application and algorithmic development teams.
  • Defines and implements platform architecture, engineering standards, and reusable technology capabilities that promote consistency, scalability, and reliability across solutions.
  • Designs and delivers platform solutions with high availability, resiliency, performance, security, and scalability.
  • Establishes and drives platform engineering best practices, including automation, testing, observability, release management, and operational excellence.
  • Performs as a specialist in all areas of the software development lifecycle and operates as a hands-on technology leader to deliver enterprise platform capabilities.
  • Leads the design, development, and continuous improvement of strategic platform infrastructure, APIs, and shared services supporting critical business and trading applications.
  • Partners with application development teams, algorithmic development teams, infrastructure teams, architecture groups, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver enabling platform capabilities.
  • Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.
  • Evaluates emerging technologies, industry trends, and engineering practices and implements changes that improve platform capabilities and developer effectiveness.
  • Champions modernization initiatives, cloud adoption strategies, automation, and engineering productivity improvements across the organization.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
  • Take measured risks while protecting the bank by applying our Risk Management Framework in the execution of your role, in line with our Risk Culture and within our approved Risk Appetite, making sound and risk-informed decisions that align to business strategy, protect assets, and adhere to applicable policy documents (Frameworks, Policies, Standards, Procedures and Supporting documents), laws and regulations.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
