Job Description:

Principal Engineer – GTB Dev & Infra

Global Transaction Banking is rebuilding its client-facing technology from the ground up — micro-frontends, real-time APIs, Host to Host and event-driven connectivity across a modern cloud-native stack.

As Principal Engineer – GTB Platform (IC Role) You will own and deliver the foundational engineering layers that power TD's Global Transaction Banking platform — spanning Global Entitlements, Entity Structure, and the cross-jurisdictional product experiences that clients and operators rely on daily. You will be responsible for delivering the end to end solution.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role at the intersection of engineering leadership and technical product strategy. You will write code, set up infrastructure, lead design reviews, and sit at the table where platform direction is shaped — driving decisions that scale across segments, geographies, and channels

Mandate: Define and steward the full stack delivery across GTB's client experience, infrastructure and connectivity layers — ensuring every surface is composable, every integration is reliable, and every engineering team can ship with confidence.

API & Integration Architecture

• Design and govern the API layer — RESTful and GraphQL contracts, versioning strategy, gateway configuration, and consumer-driven contract testing.

• Own the connectivity architecture connecting GTB systems to internal platforms, partner networks, and third-party services.

• Define patterns for event-driven integration, message routing, and protocol translation across diverse connectivity requirements.

• Ensure API security, rate limiting, observability, and reliability are first-class concerns

• Own the app code infrastructure – from defining the infrastructure to deploying it in Azure Kubernetes Services.

What We're Looking For

Core Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with the last 3+ in architecture or technical leadership role.

• Proven track record designing and delivering production-grade full stack systems at enterprise scale — not just contributing to them.

• Deep expertise in platform engineering and Kubernetes-based application deployment.

• Strong backend engineering grounding: Java, REST and GraphQL API design, and distributed systems fundamentals.

• Solid understanding of API gateway patterns, security (OAuth2, mTLS, OIDC), and integration architecture.

• Extensive experience with relational (Oracle/SQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Neo4J)

• Strong expertise in data modeling, including graph-based data models

• Experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-native application delivery.

• Comfortable with ambiguity — able to define the path forward when requirements are incomplete and tradeoffs are real.

• Working knowledge of Generative AI, LLMs and AI-enabled engineering practices.

• Role requires 50% hands on Platform development, 30% Architecture and 20% Product/Executive presentations to showcase the problems/work

• Define and own the end-to-end delivery/Integration of Foundational Services – Entitlements, Products and Reference data.

• Deliver secure, resilient, and scalable data products and services.

• Foster a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and accountability.

• Influence technology strategy and transformation outcomes across Global Transaction Banking.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience

• Master's degree preferred

• Fluency in at least one programming language such as Java or Python

• 10+ years of relevant experience

• Hands-on experience required for this role

Nice to have

• Cash Management/Transaction Banking experience
