What you’ll be doing
The Procurement team provides sourcing support to business partners in executing on their priorities across all aspects of the third-party lifecycle, including advising on sourcing approaches, supporting supplier selection (e.g., RFPs), negotiating, and contracting. The Technology and Security Procurement team supports business partners across all technology support teams, as well as fraud, corporate security, and information security. As a Consultant in Procurement, you will manage end-to-end procurement activities focusing on indirect spend categories to support supplier-hosted software and IT services.
You will collaboratively define and resolve issues when internal clients present requests in a general or ambiguous manner, encouraging diverse perspectives and approaches. You will develop and provide a procurement approach and recommendations as part of advisory services to our internal clients, based on their business requirements and contract analysis. You will develop, negotiate, execute, and implement low to moderate complexity procurement contracts, while ensuring that CIBC risks are mitigated and regulatory requirements & CIBC policies are adhered to. Plus, you will develop contract content (e.g., commercial terms and descriptive content) independently or in partnership with a legal resource and lead contract negotiations and secure authorizations for agreement execution.

How you’ll succeed
- Client Engagement & Relationship Management - Help clients meet their business goals by providing equitable service and value. Focus on each client experience and make every interaction meaningful, respecting and valuing diverse backgrounds. Establish and maintain healthy working relationships with business partners, suppliers, and peers. Develop trusted adviser relationships and provide valued consulting advice to facilitate the effective management and completion of procurement initiatives. Align procurement solutions with their business objectives. This role works with Supplier Risk Stakeholders, Relationship Managers, and Business Leads to ensure CIBC’s supplier management framework is implemented.
- Risk Management & Industry Knowledge - Ensure the appropriate governance is followed and adhered to for all contracts. Keep abreast of industry knowledge, innovations, and advancements in business practices and technologies.
- Influencing and Negotiations - Demonstrate effective influencing and negotiation skills by engaging with stakeholders at all levels, using a variety of communication styles. Manage contract drafting, negotiations, finalization, and approval processes. Comply with CIBC’s Procurement and Supplier Governance policies and processes.
- Problem Solving - Listen, ask questions, and put yourself in the client’s shoes. Take accountability for client issues, and collaborate with others to build inclusive and effective solutions.
- Manage Multiple Priorities - Use effective self-management practices to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
Who you are
- You can demonstrate at least 1 year of experience in procurement and/or supplier processes, or equivalent transferable skills and knowledge of formal sourcing principles. You maximize efficiencies, processes, and systems to meet CIBC business goals.
- You have strong self-planning skills sufficient to plan your own assignments according to general work plans; ability to multi-task, plan, and meet timelines.
- Experience drafting various contract schedules (e.g., Scope of Work, SLA, etc.) is preferred but not required; candidates with diverse or non-traditional backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
- You have effective written and oral communication skills and a willingness to develop influencing and negotiating abilities, regardless of your communication style.
