WHAT'S THE JOB?
We are looking for a hardworking Fire Basecamp Labourer to assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment at fire base camps. This role is essential in supporting firefighters, emergency personnel, and camp staff by ensuring facilities remain sanitary and operational. The ideal candidate will be responsible for general cleaning duties, waste disposal, minor maintenance tasks, and assisting with camp logistics to promote efficiency in a high-paced environment.
This position requires adaptability, physical endurance, and the ability to work in demanding conditions where fire activity may impact scheduling.
You must be comfortable working in a remote bush camp setting. Bush camps are often hours away from any town, with limited to no cell reception and Wi-Fi. Must be comfortable sleeping in a tent and living in the outdoors as accommodations can range from a lodge to a tent depending on the site.
Key responsibilities include:
- Removing garbage and disposing at designated garbage site daily.
- Collection, distribution, and management of laundry in fire camp.
- Sweep, mop, and wipe down surfaces to maintain cleanliness.
- Dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste safely.
- Assist in organizing materials and tools on-site.
- Planned utility checks on assets in fire camp (light bulbs, doors, taps, etc.).
- Troubleshoot utility issues as they arise (plugged toilets, leaky faucets, broken or damaged cosmetic equipment, etc.).
- Supporting in unloading deliveries of materials and supplies.
- Completing activities related to manual labour, including bending, stooping, reaching, carrying and lifting heavy objects weighing up to 50lbs.
- Assembling and tear down of equipment.
- Assisting janitorial and housekeeping staff.
- Driving as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Six months or more working as a labour or maintenance helper in a construction or commercial setting
- Must have a valid G Class Driver's License and clean driver's abstract
- Self-motivated with the ability to work under minimal supervision
- Physical stamina to perform manual labour tasks for extended periods of time. Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs, walk and stand for long periods of time
- Basic hand tool operation
- Attention to detail
- Ability to follow instructions and perform work safely
- Ability to perform duties in warm, wet, humid or dry climates on a variety of surfaces including, concrete and gravel.

Work schedule and remuneration:
Fire camp workers must have the ability to commit to a minimum 2-3 week rotation. Site locations are in remote bush settings and may require tent accommodations dependent on the location of the fire activity in the region. You may be required to work nights, weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. Wages are paid on an hourly basis and include a starting rate of $18.73-$19.75.
