JOB DESCRIPTION
The Senior Engineer, Facilities undertakes project management of capital projects, maintenance, rehabilitation, and service activities related to multidisciplinary assignments, while specializing in civil, structural, architectural, and site infrastructure assets. The Senior Engineer executes an assigned portion of the Capital Program and Facilities Expense Program.
They support the business as a subject matter expert and provide technical support and direction in their area of responsibility. They also provide mentorship to junior and intermediate technical staff. Responsibilities include the planning, design, construction, rehabilitation, and lifecycle management of buildings, waterfront infrastructure, foundations, roads, laydown areas, utilities, stormwater systems, and associated site infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the full lifecycle delivery of capital, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects, including planning, budgeting, procurement, execution, monitoring, close-out, and asset handover.
- Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with safety policies and promoting safe work practices among project stakeholders.
- Manage engineering consultants, contractors, vendors, and procurement activities to ensure successful project delivery.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to align project objectives, minimize operational impacts, and ensure effective communication throughout all project phases.
- Oversee project budgets, schedules, cost estimates, financial reporting, and resource planning to achieve project objectives.
- Maintain project documentation and records, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and document control requirements.
- Serve as a civil and structural engineering subject matter expert, providing technical guidance on codes, standards, best practices, and engineering solutions.
- Lead concept development, feasibility studies, engineering assessments, and design reviews for facility and infrastructure projects.
- Develop and recommend repair, rehabilitation, replacement, and lifecycle management strategies for buildings, waterfront infrastructure, utilities, roads, and site servicing systems.
- Conduct condition assessments and structural integrity reviews to support the long-term reliability, safety, and performance of infrastructure assets.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
- Master's degree would be considered an asset.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) considered an asset.
- Professional Engineer registered with Engineers Nova Scotia is required.
- Minimum 8-10+ years of experience demonstrating a high level of competence, expertise, and training in project-centric industrial environments, heavy civil construction, marine infrastructure, facilities engineering, or building infrastructure projects.
- Apply strong technical expertise in structural engineering, buildings, site infrastructure, utilities, stormwater systems, roadways, foundations, waterfront assets, construction materials, and applicable codes and standards to support the planning, design, assessment, rehabilitation, and lifecycle management of facility and infrastructure projects.
- Cultivated drafting skills and knowledge of technical drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.
- Proven history and track record of construction management, including successful delivery of capital projects on schedule and within budget.
- Strong engineering design management capabilities, including engineering analysis, consultant oversight, technical review, constructability review, and asset lifecycle planning.
Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
