RESPONSIBILITIES
The Paper Making Process Excellence Leader drives the implementation of best practices in TAD (Through Air Dried) paper making operations.
Process Excellence
- As the paper making technology platform owner, provide detailed recommendations on new technologies to pursue across the business.
- Work with suppliers, sites and engineering resources to identify and evaluate new technologies to enable step change improvements across the business.
- Stay updated on industry best practices regarding the paper making processes, operational excellence
- Lead the creation and execution of a 3-year process excellence roadmap focused on TAD paper making operations.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of change initiatives and process excellence plans with respect to paper making. Work with the operations teams across the sites to implement any needed improvements.
- Lead the implementation of best practices as it relates to paper making operations through cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Product Development, and Engineering.
- Develop processes to create a quality, data driven Paper Making culture focusing on strong center lining and process control strategies and lead the rollout of these processes across the business.
- Contribute to new product development initiatives by ensuring process capabilities align with product requirements.
Operational Excellence
- Support manufacturing sites in developing and executing annual Operational Excellence plans aimed at optimizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Benchmark our operations to identify capacity improvement opportunities and lead the business to implement.
- Support paper making cost reduction projects for OPEX 4
- Lead paper making turn around teams when needed throughout the business to attack problem areas and enable the business to achieve budgeted results
Support
- Lead rapid improvement/Kaizen events as it relates to converting process excellence
- Provide technical support to customers / quality systems
- Teach and develop direct and indirect team members in all areas of converting process excellence, work with sites to identify salaried and hourly team members who may need development.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary degree in Engineering or Technology related field, or equivalent experience
- 7-10+ years of relevant work experience
- Operations, Quality, Product Development experience, Green Belt or higher preferred
- Extensive knowledge of the competitive marketplace, TAD and conventional paper making technology
- Deep understanding of the impact of the paper making processes on both the converting process as well as on quality and product performance
- Understanding and applying new concepts and processes
- Ability to manage multiple activities with competing deadlines
- Ability to develop sustainable relationships with our employees, suppliers, senior management
- Ability to assess innovation and potential impact on business
- Project management experience
- Leadership, mentoring, and coaching ability
- Ability to travel (up to 25% of time)
- Strong presentation and communication skills at both leadership and floor levels
- Self-starter, self-driven, able to take initiative and ownership
- IMS system, A3 and Gantt chart knowledge
