Position: Water Conservation / Environmental Coordinator (Student)

Reports to: Infrastructure Supervisor

Salary: $20.00 per hour

Summary:

The Water Conservation / Environmental Coordinator is a contract seasonal position that supports the Infrastructure Supervisor in developing water conservation and environmental initiatives within the Town of Cornwall. As a summer student, the coordinator will assist with planning, implementing, and evaluating water conservation programs while contributing to community outreach, education, and monitoring activities. This position offers hands-on-experience in environmental projects, team collaboration and communication with staff and residents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the Town's development and implementation of water conservation initiatives.
  • Draft water rebate and audit programs or other environmental initiatives that will be considered by the Infrastructure Supervisor.
  • Identify and assist in purchasing program materials.
  • Develop data collection entry forms for program tracking.
  • Engage with the community to promote water conservation practices and raise awareness.
  • Communicate with residents and schedule appointments for water audits.
  • Support ongoing water conservation programs and help develop long-term strategies.
  • Create content for social media, newsletters, and other outreach materials.
  • Assist in other duties related to the Infrastructure Department.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Enrolled in a post-secondary school full-time in the current/previous year and intend to return to school full-time in the next school year.
  • Must be a resident of PEI and eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must be capable of physically demanding tasks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic data analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project coordination experience considered an asset.
  • Background in landscape labor, environmental science or related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of native tree species and planting techniques are considered an asset.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Education and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Biology, Geography, or a related field is preferred.
  • Attention to detail and data entry are essential.
  • A criminal records check is required upon hire.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office-based with frequent fieldwork and travel to various sites.
  • Hours of work are 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions is required.
  • Lifting and carrying program components into residential homes may be necessary.
  • Usage of personal vehicle may be required depending on the availability of Town vehicles (mileage will be compensated).
