EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Assistant in Montreal, QC. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive environmental samples and enter Chain of Custody into LIMS system
  • Review paperwork for all incoming samples to ensure completeness and correctness
  • Quality control of samples to ensure sample integrity
  • Transfer samples based on priority to appropriate custody locations
  • Coordinate and perform sample-related activities, including shipping and receiving, processing and administration
  • Generate reports, invoices, and enter data produced by analysts into the computer system for the production of the final, client ready report
  • Ensure the final report is prepared and that the results are reported to the client in a timely manner
  • Assist with internal and external client questions via phone, e-mail, and in person
  • Act as a liaison between clients and laboratory staff
  • Preparation and analysis of air samples for asbestos content using PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control procedures
  • Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material
  • Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual
  • Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed
  • Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the manager

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Authorization to work in Canada indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
  • Some laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting is a plus
  • Bilingual in English and French
  • Experience in administration, data entry, and customer service
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clientele
  • Ability to work in a high volume environment
  • Ability to stand and sit for various lengths of time
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
  • Effective time management, organizational skills, and ability to multi- task and prioritize with minimal assistance

Available Shift:
Position is full-time Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

EMSL Canada offers supplemental benefits and paid time off. The pay rate for this position is $23.00 per hour.
