Job description:

We are seeking a motivated Jr. System Administrator to join our dedicated on-premises IT team in (link removed) This entry-level role offers an excellent opportunity to develop hands-on technical skills within our local data center and office infrastructure. The Jr. System Administrator will support the physical and logical deployment, maintenance, and day-to-day troubleshooting of our on-site servers and network hardware, ensuring optimal performance and security for our internal users. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, detail-oriented, and passionate about traditional IT operations, with a strong foundation in server management and networking concepts.

Duties

Server Maintenance: Manage and maintain physical server hardware, racks, and cabling within our on-premises data center.
Virtualization: Support virtualization platforms (VMware/ESXi) to manage virtualized infrastructure hosted on local hardware.
OS Administration: Maintain, configure, and troubleshoot Windows Server and various Linux distributions across physical and virtual environments.
Network Administration: Configure and manage local network services including DNS, DHCP, and VPNs to ensure secure and reliable internal connectivity.
Database Support: Assist in the maintenance and basic administration of on-site database systems, including Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
Automation: Develop scripts using Bash, PowerShell, or Python to automate routine system maintenance and user administration tasks.
System Monitoring: Monitor local system health, perform routine security patching, and manage hardware firmware updates to ensure compliance and stability.
Help Desk Support: Assist in troubleshooting hardware and software issues for local workstations and servers, escalating complex problems as needed.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of system configurations, hardware inventory, and internal troubleshooting procedures.
Experience

Operating Systems: Solid understanding of Windows Server environments and Linux distributions (e.g., Ubuntu, RHEL).
Networking: Strong familiarity with fundamental networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN configurations.
Virtualization: Exposure to virtualization technologies such as VMware or ESXi is highly preferred.
Scripting: Experience or a strong desire to learn scripting languages like PowerShell or Bash for task automation.
Database Knowledge: Basic understanding of database management (SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL) is beneficial.
Hardware Knowledge: Interest in server hardware, cabling, and physical data center operations.
Education/Experience: Prior internship or hands-on experience in IT support or system administration is preferred but not mandatory.
Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a proactive attitude toward learning new hardware and system technologies.
