Why is this role important?
As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Director, Hospital Data Transformation is responsible for strategic leadership and successful execution of the Hospital Data Transformation (HDT) and Organ Donation and Transplantation (ODT) initiatives. The Director provides leadership, expertise and oversight to the planning, development and delivery of the projects' objectives, specifically the development and implementation of a modernized, near real time pan-Canadian hospital data system and the operationalization of CanODT and other related project deliverables.
What you'll do
- Provides leadership and strategic direction relating to the Branch portfolio for the duration of the strategic initiatives. Leads, develops and mentors managers in the portfolio. Accountable for the development and implementation of operational plans and budgets for the strategic initiatives and operations, aligned to corporate objectives and priorities.
- Leads the execution of the HDT initiative, articulating the value of near real time pan-Canadian hospital data with broad sets of stakeholders. Oversees the design, build and operationalization of the new hospital data system at CIHI that leverages modern data ingestion, management and dissemination approaches while maintaining CIHI's continuous value-add to various stakeholders. Develops and executes a multi-year transition plan that optimizes uptake and adoption of the new hospital data system. Collaborates with other interconnected strategic initiatives at CIHI as is appropriate.
- Delivers on the commitments of the ODT initiative, including the continued onboarding of data providers to the new CanODT system, maintaining and enhancing of the ODT data standards, expanding on public and secure reporting content and tools. Oversees the transition from legacy data system (Canadian Organ Replacement Register - CORR) to the CanODT technical platform.
- Oversees the execution of detailed workplans for each project to ensure milestones, deliverables and timelines are met. Identifies and mitigates risks to successful delivery, resolving issues and removing barriers where required. Oversees budget planning, allocation and tracking for initiatives and Branch deliverables.
- Provides expertise and advice to the Executive Director, Health Data Advancement; Vice-President, Data Strategies and Statistics; Senior Management Committee; Executive Committee; Content Committee; and others as required.
- Establishes and maintains relationships and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to identify priorities in support of the branch's vision and develop plans to deliver on them.
- Monitors client relationships and provides client services as requested and appropriate, in partnership with the CIHI Regional offices.

Knowledge and Experience
- Advanced degree in Health Informatics, Health Administration or related field, with training in quantitative analysis and/or information management an asset. An equivalent combination of related education and experience will be considered.
- 10+ years progressive in senior management and leadership experience in a digital health-related field, including demonstrated experience in information systems development, project management, and leading organizational-wide innovative programs.
- Demonstrated experience in building and leading innovative and high-performance teams; working successfully across teams, convening multiple players and facilitating productive dialogue and problem resolution to identify and achieve common goals.
- Experience developing strategies and successfully delivering business transformation and change in products and processes.
- Knowledge of digital trends, key standards and terminologies, data holdings and information at CIHI and other sources.
- Knowledge of data governance principles and best practices and health sector issues and challenges. Strong conceptual understanding of health and its major determinants, as well as the organization and delivery of health services in Canada.
- Demonstrated ability for strategic thinking with the ability to influence and motivate others to bring about change in a manner consistent with the organization's mission, vision and values.
- An understanding of health service research and health policy.
- Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both English and French is an asset.
- Ability to meet travel requirements within Canada.
