Director, Sustaining Capital Projects - (14986)

Overview

IAMGOLD is seeking a strategic and experienced Director, Sustaining Capital Projects to lead and support the management of our sustaining capital projects portfolio across our global mining operations (Westwood, Essakane, Côté Gold). This role is responsible for guiding site PMOs in implementing rigorous project management practices and processes, supporting the full lifecycle of sustaining capital projects-from budget planning and capital approval to execution monitoring and post-project evaluation.

Working closely with site PMOs, the Director will ensure each project is grounded in a robust business case and supported by strong baselines. The Director will coordinate monthly Capital Request Committee (CRC) meetings and play a key role in validating project outcomes against initial expectations, presenting findings to senior stakeholders. This role will also champion project management excellence by equipping site teams with the tools, guidance, and best practices needed to elevate performance and consistency. The Director will directly manage consultants, collaborate with finance and technical departments, and perform regular site visits to maintain alignment and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the management of the sustaining capital projects portfolio across global mining operations.
  • Guide site PMOs in implementing rigorous project management practices and processes across the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure projects are grounded in robust business cases with strong baselines.
  • Coordinate monthly CRC meetings and validate project outcomes against initial expectations; present findings to senior stakeholders.
  • Develop and disseminate tools, guidance, and best practices to elevate project management performance and consistency at site teams.
  • Directly manage consultants and collaborate with finance and technical departments.
  • Conduct regular site visits to maintain alignment and accountability.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in engineering.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in engineering, construction, or project management, ideally within mining or industrial settings.
  • Strong grasp of portfolio management; Project Management certification is an asset.
  • Bilingualism in English and French is an asset.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with Oracle, Ecosys, and Primavera.
