Job Details:
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for all aspects of tax compliance and planning for both sales and income taxes in Canada and the U.S. Responsible for cash forecasting and optimizing cash and debt levels; assist in the development of optimal capital structure; manage debt levels and banking relationships; manage foreign exchange exposures and risks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tax:
- Supervise the preparation of sales tax returns (about 50 per month);
- Liaise with auditors;
- Prepare federal and provincial/state income tax returns; prepare tax working papers for audited financial statements;
- Identify and implement tax planning opportunities;
- Evaluate and adjust transfer pricing models and practices.
Treasury:
- Update and improve short and longer term cash forecasting models;
- Supervise the cash applications team;
- Forecast, monitor and manage cash flow and debt requirements;
- Develop optimal capital structure;
- Identify and manage FX exposures; develop appropriate hedging strategies if necessary;
- Identify and manage interest swap opportunities; manage interest level tranches within the existing debt structure.
Supervisory:
- Supervises one manager and tax staff of one; cash applications staff of 4.
- Staff development and career planning focus is important for this area.
Essential Qualifications:
- Minimum education: University Degree; CA highly preferred. CMA with extensive experience; CICA in-depth tax course, or equivalent.
- 5-10 years post designation experience.
- Knowledge of Canadian and US income taxes.
- Transfer Pricing.
- Corporate experience (experience with Canada and US branches or HO).
- Advanced Excel modeling skills.
- Strong experience with hedging.
Non-technical skills/abilities: strong analytical and financial modeling skills; ability to manage shifting priorities and multiple deadlines; strong organizational and communication abilities.
