Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Atlantic Salmon Buyer to join our Procurement team at Tradex Foods. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in seafood purchasing, specifically with North American & global farmed Atlantic Salmon, and will be responsible for managing supplier relationships, ensuring competitive pricing, maintaining high quality standards, and optimizing delivery schedules for our salmon programs.

As our Atlantic Salmon Buyer, you'll help shape the future of our seafood programs, work with a dynamic team, and play a critical role in bringing premium products to foodservice and retail customers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Atlantic Salmon Sourcing : Procure farmed Atlantic Salmon from global suppliers, including North America, Chile, Norway, and Europe.
Supplier Management : Build and maintain relationships with salmon farms and processors; negotiate volume-based contracts, pricing, and terms.
Market Intelligence : Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and harvest forecasts; deliver actionable insights to internal teams.
Order & Delivery Coordination : Issue purchase orders, oversee production schedules, manage shipping timelines, and ensure on-time deliveries.
Inventory & Demand Planning : Collaborate with logistics and sales teams to forecast needs, plan inventory, and avoid stock-outs or overstock situations.
Quality Control : Work with QA teams to ensure product meets company specifications and customer expectations; manage claims and non-conformances.
Cost Optimization : Analyze pricing models, drive cost-efficiencies, and ensure purchases align with gross margin targets.
Regulatory Compliance : Ensure product origin, traceability, sustainability certifications (e.g. ASC, BAP), and documentation meet regulatory and internal standards.
Reporting & Analysis : Produce weekly procurement reports; analyze purchasing data and provide updates to management on salmon program performance.

Skills & Experience

Fluent in written and spoken English; additional languages (Spanish, Norwegian, Mandarin) are an asset.
3+ years of direct experience in purchasing Atlantic Salmon or similar aquaculture species.
Proven track record of supplier negotiations and managing international supply chains.
Strong understanding of salmon farming practices, harvesting cycles, and market dynamics.
Experience in seafood commodities purchasing preferred.
Proficient in Outlook, Excel, and ERP systems.
Strong math, analysis, and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Able to manage deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Punctual, dependable, and solutions-oriented.

Position based on-site at our Victoria Office - remote work is not available.
